One Room Challenge, Week 4

This is week four of the One Room Challenge where I am transforming my mudroom into a functionally pretty space. You can start at the beginning, here. I say it all the time....week four is the toughest. It is the moment of truth for being realistic with what can actually get accomplished over the next two remaining weeks.

I am feeling slightly optimistic with my mudroom, although UPS is going to play a major role in the ultimate outcome...so I won't be popping the champagne cork just yet, as Beth might say.

This week was all about coordinating the art for my space. Minted has generously provided me with a limited edition art print. My wall space is small, and I have additional pieces that I needed to consider when shopping the Minted site. Here are some of my favorites.

Lights on the Lake / Peonies in Vase / Peach Blossoms / Scribbles in Blue

All of the prints have a framing option so it's fun to click on the various colors to see how the frame changes the feel of the piece. In this room, I am sticking to black frames. In addition, some prints come in several colors.

Taking all of my needs into consideration, I ended up with a square print, framed in black, that would compliment all of the other elements in the room.

I have tall ceiling envy in an eight foot high ceiling space. One of the ways I like to create the feeling of taller ceilings is by hanging the art above my wall treatment.

I can't wait to see what Jennifer has created for these frames. Now let's go see how the rest of the group is doing.

Thank you One Room Challenge Sponsors;

What Do You Think?

Hello Monday! Was that a full weekend, or just a drive-by? Did it feel like it was one day short? Oh well, I want to know if you have an opinion on exterior home design.

I often wonder what inspires people to combine art and architecture. You know the old dilemma form verses function. I have looked at these homes several times. Each time I notice something different in their design.

Cablik Enterprises
For example, on the right the upper rectangular windows are not the same size as the lower rectangular windows.
Ninebark Design Build
It would have been easy to make the transom windows on the left stay on the same plane as the middle window on the right. Was it deliberate?
Noel Cross + Architects
I'm just out on this one.
Princeton Architectural Press
A GRUPPO Architects
I think a different view of this home would make it more understandable. That hillside on the right would probably explain this...or not.
Fred Herring Design - Bernard Andre Photography
Here are my questions, can you appreciate these designs?

Would you want to live across the street from them?

My feeling is, if they keep their yard looking nice and take in their garbage cans in a timely manner...I will be a happy neighbor.

One Room Challenge...Week 6

Thanks for coming back and checking in on my One Room Challenge. If you would like to start at the beginning of this challenge, you can go here

This is going to be a bit confusing for you guys. This is week 6, but it is not the finale. This time, we are working on our rooms for 6 weeks, which will equate to 7 posts....next Wednesday is the big reveal.

This was not the most productive week for me. I had a my daughter had a huge physics project that was due. Thankfully, it looks like I am going her group is going to get an A+ on that one.
This is what I managed to get accomplished....I gave my CL mirror a makeover that you can read about here.

I replaced the Tibetan doors

With my Romance lady

The art on this wall looked so blah,

but on the new white walls, it looks beautiful

Last summer we went to San Francisco, and I brought home two watercolors from a local artist. I framed them in a simple black floating frame.

Next week, homework or not...it will be the finale. I hope you come back. Now let's go visit the others ..some of them may be done and celebrating...I know one of them is on vacation #SoJealous!

Lighthouses

Coastal dreaming would not be complete without enjoying the beauty of Lighthouses. Distressed or newly renovated, I find them aesthetically pleasing. This would be my idea of an ocean view tree house. I would grab a thick yummy throw blanket, a pillow, my iPod.....and my laptop....I would nap and blog here. Too bad other tourists would want to come along and ruin my solitude.

If you found these pictures interesting, you may enjoy Lighthouses by Laurence Parent

This would look lovely on a coffee table, or a great hostess gift for that friend who has a beach house. We want to make sure we get invited back next summer ;-).

And for my DIY-er friends, we all know how to take calendar pictures and frame them for cheap affordable art. Well, now is the time to buy a 2012 Lighthouse calendar...yes, I said 12!

They are under $5. That is 12 potential prints for $5...someone do the math.

You can find more of my coastal posts here.

Have you ever been inside a lighthouse?

Nantucket Style.....Art

I am continuing my 31 days of Nantucket Style. If you would like to start at the beginning, go here

When I think of artwork, I often think of my surroundings. The obvious choice for a beach house would be nautical artwork. Nautical artwork can get really tacky. I remember Nate Berkus saying to someone, "You don't have to have an Eiffel Tower statue for us to know that you love Paris".

I love Etsy, and thought that would be the perfect way to shop for tasteful beach house art.
