Friday's In the Garden....I'll Get You, My Pretty

Hi Everyone, Yeah...it's Friday, and I can't wait for the weekend. The weather is finally spectacular. It has been in the high 70's with NO humidity. This picture, that I use every week, is from last year

Those are stunning Electric Blanket ground cover roses....only the deer ate the blooms.

Who me? It could have been the rabbits

BUT...this year, I have been spraying my garden with this

...and my roses look like this

A better view

It is a miracle....actually, this is a miracle...this clematis has not bloomed in 2, maybe 3, years

Anyone know the name? Here are some of my white Flower Carpet roses

I need some plant recommendations for this area. The azalea's are not happy, and need to be moved

Something on the low side, full sun, an evergreen would be a plus

My Caradona salvia is super happy....and so is the big weed

...but from this angle, only you know it is there

Enjoy your weekend, Friends....these are not my friends.

Friday's in the Garden...Garden Tours

Hi Everyone...yeah, I'm leaving my hood and going on some garden tours (virtually of course).

I was in full garden stalker mode this week, and I stumbled across some lovely home gardens. Here are just a few that more than caught my eye....

Friday's in The Garden...Bye Bye dead trees, Hello new blog

Hi Everyone...it was a messy gardening week.

Last October, we had a horrible freaky storm hit our area. Most of my trees and plants are coming back strong. However, I had one dead tree and one dying tree, both standing. One thing is for sure, a dead tree standing....will eventually fall! So this week, I had tree work done at my house.

If you have ever had tree work done, then you know it is loud, messy, and inconvenient (why yes, I do need to get my car out of the driveway sometime today!). Now that it is over, my yard looks so happy.

I want to tell you about a, new to me, blog....Connie at Hartwood Roses. I stumbled upon her blog when I was buying my white roses on-line. She is an avid rose gardener, so if you are looking for a post on pruning roses

...go to her blog, here for a full tutorial.  She also does some fun DIY stuff. Have a happy Holiday this weekend!

Friday's in The Garden......Roses & Starbucks

Welcome back to my series,

This was an exciting week for me because my bareroot roses arrived. I thought it would be fun to do a tutorial along with illustrated images (via Sunset). This is how they arrived

Inside all that packaging

It is best to soak them in water for a day, or so

Dig the hole...try to make a cone shape that the root structure can rest on

Because real gardens are not like the perfect illustrations...or as you see in "Martha's" yard, cut any roots that are in the way

Spread the roots out over the cone. Make sure that the graft (the bump where the branches begin) is at or above the soil level. This depends on what zone you are in and if you plan on mulching. I place mine just above the soil line.

Gently backfill the hole with soil

Notice that there is a well around the plant and the some of the roots are still showing....I'm not done yet. Time to give it a good drink of water. This will remove any airpockest that may have formed

Add more soil and gently press it around the roots

There is that graft I mentioned. Because these roses grow 3-4 feet wide, I want to plant them approximately 36" on center. That way, I will have a full lush row of white roses.

And now it is Starbucks time....not for me...for the roses. This is about 10 pounds of used coffee grinds (and some filters)....it's FREE!! Starbucks will saved used coffee grinds for you. The program is called Grounds for Gardeners.

Mine did not come in a cute package like they advertise. All the better, because I asked for an entire day's worth....Please! They saved it for me, and this is how I use it; a few shovels full around the roses

I work it into the soil

WARNING....THIS IS CAFFEINE AND CAN HARM YOUR DOG!!!! Because of this, I only use a small amount in the back yard. I use a lot in the front. Cover the plants with mulch

And wait! Happy Gardening.

Closet Envy!

Since I always think that I am late to the "did you see this" party...I will risk it, and run this short video. It is Sandra from Sawdust and Paper Scraps. Her closet has made the rounds, but it is so worth the view. She is so amazingly talented...and her family does a dance at the end! I am speechless.....I have closet envy for this

Now that is talent! On another note, I just got an e-mail that my bare-root roses are on their way, so off to the garden for me. What are you working on?

White in the Garden & Bare Root Roses

Call it winter blues....call it spring planning....call it on-line shopping addiction; I just ordered 9 Iceberg Roses (bare root). Depending on where you live, the time to plant bare root roses is very soon...if not now.

If you are not familiar with bare root roses, they come like this

Don't be scared, it is not dead and if planted properly, this will become a stunner in your garden. When mine arrive, I will do a tutorial on how I plant them. In the mean time, lets look at how lovely white is in the garden.
