Karl, Is That You?

It all started with this pin. It is a Karl Springer Asian Modern Coffee Table. Something about this pin stuck with me.

I was sure I saw it on CL. I know, that would be too crazy, right? Notice the comment I made.
Pinterest

The pinner never responded...would you?

Meet my new coffee table

Shooting a picture of brass is tricky, but bare with me...because I think it is a real Karl Springer. The owner had it listed all wrong. In fact, it was up for a long time, and I won't tell you how I found this one...sorry. Let's just say that it wasn't under anything you would have thought it would be. I am also not going to share the price, because if it is real....it's for sale!

Here is a similar table listed on 1st dibs
1st dibs $2,850.
There is a slight difference with this table, it does not have the ribs on the top piece holding up the glass....mine does.

Here is an Asian Style table on 1st dibs that is very similar to mine. This one is rectangular.

1st dibs $4,200.
This detail is identical to mine

1st dibs $4,200.

Here is the table from the original pin. It is in London at Talisman. I inquired about this table, and here are some additional photos they sent me.

Karl Springer Table ~ $7,000 (US)
The rib detail I keep referring to.

Now, I don't want you to think the CL table is in perfect condition...it is not. There are a few of the ribs missing.

This is not difficult to mask with a creative solution. The glass is almost perfect...especially for its age.

I did a quick styled picture for you.

See my jeans?

So, is this a Karl Springer table?

Omg I'm so jealous! That table is fantastic- I live in WY and I would never find anything like that here. Just a lot of Oak. :( :(

AAAAAAAHHHHHHH! KArl or not it is gorgeous and a real keepeer! but I understand the temptation of selling it off if it is indeed an original!!!! I guess the only way to find out is to have a real expert take a look at it. Love the table, please keep it, it will make a gorgeous heirloom. :-)

Shut the front door! Really? CL? It is gorgeous. Can't wait to hear if it is the real deal!

Fab U lous! Don't you dare sell that thing - at least until you enjoy it a little first. You know how I adore a great brass table!

Wow. Linda. Great score!! As a mid-century furniture design enthusiast, I am really jealous!!! It looks authentic. You should contact Matthews and Parker -- I think they work on these tables if you are looking to have it restored -- they can also probably authenticate it for you. http://www.matthewsandparker.com Keep it for a year and when you are sick of it, sell it!

I have a blurb I am doing in your honor over at www.sybariticspaces.blogspot.com on Karl Springer -- so be sure to stop by! xoxo Amal

Hope the kids are feeling better. I can't wait to check out this website. I often wonder what people are thinking when I see some of this stuff. But ultimately I think it's just part of the fun of Pinterest.

A table like his is going up for auction Feb 5th in Philly. I wish I lived near Philly! http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/15571116_large-italian-brass-and-glass-coffee-cocktail-tab This Live Auctioneers is the best site for finding anything. You can sort by item name, sign up for alerts when what you are looking for comes up etc. I haven't done any long distance furniture so I don't know how to navigate the shipping but I have bought art and had it shipped.
