Nantucket style.......Design Indulgence

I can't think of a better way to spend a Friday, than with the crazy Sheriky Freaky Deaky of Design Indulgence. Although I may have forced her into the One Room Challenge, the fact that she kept blogging about it long after we called "utensils down, hands up", is proof that she really did enjoy herself.  She is here to share her views on Nantucket Style.

It seems like Linda has bullied  asked me nicely to help with her  "31 Day Challenge".....and you all remember the last time I tried to say no to her [the ORC].......well let's just say that it took a while for my kneecaps to heal......:)

The topic is Nantucket Style.  Do I like it?  Is it my style?  Do I even know what it is?  A big fat YES I DO!

In my opinion here is an image that defines NS to me...

It is the most photographed home in Nantucket "The Rose Cottage" owned by Jeffery Bilhuber.  You can google this sucker and about a million images of it comes up including the feature in AD.  After you finish reading this post go here to see the transformation.

Hey...I said AFTER!

Now if we want to talk decor....duh...this is a design blog right?

Baskets and lots of them right.  Stuffed with pillows, magazines or old quilts.

More basket goodness.....

How about blue and white and baskets.

Neutrals, wicker......so calming and peaceful.

A designer of rugs and fabrics, Elizabeth Eakins also defines Nantucket Style to me.
Here are a few of her designs.

And some beautiful fabrics from her line....

Real purdy huh?

Perfect example with the vintage oars, blue and white stripe, and texture with the natural shades and baskets.

One more picture to really drill down my point in case you have not been paying attention.

Another iconic designer who has perfected NS is Victoria Hagen
Might be my favorite......edited, wood for warmth and lots of blue and white.

Whoop Yeah.

So there is your lesson for the day....Nantucket Style 101.

Get some.

Great inspirations, Sherry. I love that white beamed and beadboarded ceiling in the last room!! The architect Patrick Ahearn from the living room with the wicker chair has done a ton of beautiful homes on Cape Cod & the islands….I see his name pop up everywhere. Another good one to google.
