Lighthouses

Coastal dreaming would not be complete without enjoying the beauty of Lighthouses. Distressed or newly renovated, I find them aesthetically pleasing. This would be my idea of an ocean view tree house. I would grab a thick yummy throw blanket, a pillow, my iPod.....and my laptop....I would nap and blog here. Too bad other tourists would want to come along and ruin my solitude.

This would look lovely on a coffee table, or a great hostess gift for that friend who has a beach house. We want to make sure we get invited back next summer ;-).

And for my DIY-er friends, we all know how to take calendar pictures and frame them for cheap affordable art. Well, now is the time to buy a 2012 Lighthouse calendar...yes, I said 12!

They are under $5. That is 12 potential prints for $5...someone do the math.

You can find more of my coastal posts here.

Have you ever been inside a lighthouse?

I love the idea of a cozy nap in a lighthouse just not in the one next to the scary waterfall.

I was thinking the same thing as Kerry. The one next to the waterfall is soo scary!!!

I've never been in one, but I have always been fascinated by them - they are look so foreboding yet inviting at the same time because of it's solitude. :-)

Hi, Linda - Tom and I love lighthouses. We've been known to drive miles and miles and miles :) to find them. A lot easier now with GPS! Cool post....love it!

I have never been inside one although Ive been to one at Fenwick Island, DE. They really amaze me, especially the one's that look like you have to be air lifted into them...how they're still standing I'll never know. Cool post.

Lighthouses are such inherently lonely places -- and I think haunting for that reason. I am a creature who craves company and I always wondered how someone could live in the ones out in the middle of a harbor (back in the day), essentially stranded until supplies were brought. But I guess that's it, some folks like the peace and quite such situations bring. Where I live there are quite a few lighthouses that have been taken over from the state by conservation groups and fundraising is not stop because of the enormous cost in keeping the stone supports in place. Thanks for sharing. xo

Joe and I spent our honeymoon touring lighthouses on the Oregon coast. The nastalga and beauty of them has always drawn me to them. Great suggestion on the calendar.

Great post. We have some pretty lighthouses on Cape Cod…..I remember climbing up on once when I was a kid. Love the symbol - a light in a storm.

We've been vacationing on the Outter Banks for half of my life. And the only light house I have been in is there in Corolla. Talk about a lot of steps! A family friend was married on the grounds of that light house, so it's kind of a magical place for me now. Very good memories.
