Hi Friends! Thanks for coming back and checking in on my progress for the One Room Challenge. If this is your first time on my blog you can start the challenge here. Before I get into the details of the week, I want to thank Emily Clark for featuring the ORC ladies here, and here. Your hospitality was appreciated.
Are you wondering who showed up this week? Me too!
Vinny my painter came! I love Vinny, he is my first choice in painting. He painted my dining room ceiling
He came with two other guys, and the three of them really knocked it out. Before I show it to you , I must tell you that Vinny is not a huge fan of the plank ceiling treatment. He kept saying..."It's a look". I realize that this is not the most popular choice for New Jersey, but in my mind....I live at the beach.
Here is my high gloss plank ceiling
Another view
When he was done, I told him it was so beautiful I could cry. Vinny looked scared. He didn't exactly understand that reaction....buy you do! He also did not understand what a blog was. As you can see, the walls were rolled by said painter, too. Once I have a competent person at my home, I don't want them to leave. Are you like that?
As long as you are looking at my uneven windows....what say you for window treatment? That bookcase on the left is being moved downstairs, BTW.
As for the built-ins...let's just say I'm still hacking away
The cardboard backs bothered me so much that I added a layer of luan wood. Yes, I will be painting them...still deciding on that, too. I realize there are only two more weeks, so now might be the time to come to terms with what won't be getting finished. Eh, I'll worry about it next week.
As for the trimming out on the built-ins
I added a crown and a chair rail.
This corner took a long time, but I love it and now stare at it....a lot
I love the way it turns the corner. Do you stop during a project to admire you own work? The work that nobody else in the family will notice. The work that makes you feel like you do more than just laundry and cooking.
Moving on, after my dresser disaster, I put these two rejects potential projects out at the curb.
I always put my decent stuff out a day before bulky trash because I want it to be picked up and recycled. I am happy to report that within an hour, a local landscapers' crew picked them up! Look for them on another blog real soon.
Hola chicos, me encantaría ver lo que haces con las piezas ... me envíen una foto.
As for me, 2 Malm dressers from Ikea will do just fine.
If the humidity ever decreases, I will finish painting them the perfect shad of mint

You and I need to have a chat my love. Those pagoda pendant chandeliers?!?! Why are they not in my life? I am beyond obsessed with you and what you are working with here. Wow. O. M. G. Get it girl!
The ceiling transformation is fabulous!! I am seriously contemplating what to do with your windows ... I can deal with the size difference, but that slant to the right of the small one is throwing me ... I have a couple of ideas I will work on ... quickly!!
Wow! What progress. Love love the planking and the high gloss. Can't wait to see it all done.
I am so in love with your glossy ceilings! And why oh why am I not your neighbor, I would totally have scored those dressers from you! And those pendants, I need more pictures of their goodness!
oh my good lord the ceilings look great. my electrician was much the same as vinny when i shreeked about how much i loved the light, after he hemmed and hawed about the size and actually putting it up. and then, i asked him what he thought of the dark ceiling and he said - its definitely interesting...
these guys just dont get it. they love to do upgrades for people who want their houses to look like home depot came in and outfitted them, but they arent used to the quirkiness of a designer! LOL
Okay I always want to cry when it comes to things that make me SO happy in a space...just pure joy in a bottle! Those ceilings are magnificent!! I can really see the potential in this space now! I have an idea for those VERY challenging windows! First on the smaller one I would put a moulding treatment underneath it and above it (if you can do it above with that funky angle..but if anyone can you can)and paint it the white like the rest of the windows to even them out. Do you really need window privacy there? If not I would leave it at that. If you do I would do a woven natural material top mounted shades on each window that uses the top portion of that left window to virtually make them even as well...but that all depends on the view outside too. Good luck!
The high gloss ceiling is wonderful. I would ignore the fact that the windows are different and mount rods on both just below the ceiling with floor length linen curtains or striped silk taffeta curtains.
Wow Linda. You and Vinny make a great team! The ceiling looks great. I think a roman style matchstick blind in each window would be fantastic. Amazing job this week. Sooo satisfying...I kinda know the feeling cuz I do sometimes walk around my new space with a Cheshire grin on feeling pretty darn good about myself.
Bravos for you and Vinny! We all need a Vinny. Your carpentry work is remarkable! I get absolutely NOTHING done on Wednesday's anymore...too busy following all you talented girls. Patty
I LOVE the lights in your dining room! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Also, don't you dare let Vinny tell you any differently, those planked ceilings are fabulous! What a great job! Your writing cracks me up (and those poor little dressers on the curb...glad they found a welcome home). ha, can't wait for next week!
I agree with Heather - your dining room lights are fabulous! I also had a great painter - who no longer paints..sigh..so its up to me. Your ceiling is amazing though, I get the whole ceiling thing. As for the windows, are they the same width? You could get roman blinds, and hang them up at the same height so the windows look the same. Just my two cents.
Ha, I see that you had my wood idea yourself and ran with it, unlike my lazy self. I think this room is totally coming together, and I love "the look". Will you be using an O'verlay on the Malm dressers? And what fabrics are you using?? I am totally excited to see where you are going with all this.
WOW. Your ceiling is INCREDIBLE! I can just hear Vinny talking about "the look." That's really funny. And I'm not surprised your chests were picked up so quickly. Somebody scored. I'd do whatever Kim says on the windows. You are really doing SO MUCH. How exciting for you to get it all done. It will be beautiful!
As for the windows, I am thinking perhaps doing roman blinds or bamboo blinds, not sure which direction you are going for. Love the gorgeous pagoda lanterns in your dining room, by the way!
The plank ceiling looks fantastic! I like how you customize your entertainment area with the molding. I can relate with you, admiring a job well done that others will not be noticing. I hate painting walls but when I paint, I want it to look as perfect as possible. Sometimes, I find myself taking a longer time touching the paint up than painting the room itself. Lol. Life is definitely not easy for a perfectionist, my friend!
Your dressers look very pretty, by the way.
I am excited to see next week's progress!

I love, love, love your ceiling and want to run out and buy some planks to install! Your molding is fantastic and you should sit back and admire it, I sure am!
I too could cry over the ceiling! LOVE! I think you should do long panels on both so you see the window treatments and not the size of the windows. The same height for both...
I am sooooooo jealous of your ceiling! It is fantastic. Lucky you!
Sister/girl, that ceiling is to DIE for. Love it and Mr. Vinny can just mosey on down to Miami to help me when he can. Ok, so I haven't been checking out all the bloggers on this challenge. Gonna do that this weekend. I swear.
Oh wow! It looks beautiful!!! I love it and that mint green paint!!! Good job!!!
That ceiling is gorgeous. Kudos to Vinny...a good painter is hard to find. Can't wait to see how your mint bedside tables turn out.
Swooning over your wonderful plank ceiling. Great job. You deserve to stand back and appreciate all your beaufiful accomplishments! Awesome job!
