One Room Challenge...Week Five

Hi Friends! Thanks for coming back to check in on my progress for the One Room Challenge. In case you are new to my blog, you can start the challenge here. I have so much to show you this week. If I become a little incoherent in my typing, it is because I chose working on my room over sleeping. I hope I made the right choice.

Ikea, Ikea, Ikea...what would we do without you and those names we can't pronounce?
I needed a large rug for my bedroom because this one was too small

Have you priced oversized area rugs lately?  Let's just say that I could buy two large televisions for that price, and I would enjoy them so much more....I smell an Ikea Hack!!

 I bought 4 Tarnby's

I took pictures of the process, and then deleted them from my camera. So, I recreated the idea for you here

Take note of the hole in the middle...it is going to show up again

Using an upholstery needle and upholstery thread

I began to sew the rugs together. I never watch the clock, I watch television...so this was about a Bachelorette Finale and maybe an After the Final Rose worth of work.

There is only one problem

There's that hole. Feels like a rug's version of a plumbers crack.

I have a plan, words that always make my husband grab his wallet, I will attempt the rug on rug

Amber Interior
I hope I can find one in the next week! Now let me show you other ways I have been entertaining myself. Did you ever notice these?

I forgot to ask your opinion on what to do, but so many of you liked the black version of the chandelier Beth posted about...I painted these black

....and speaking of chandelier drama

I went from this

To this

I think it needs one more coating of razzle dazzle before I bring it back in the house.

Now let's see if there is any way for me to keep you on this blog any longer....Oh, yes....the minty Malm

Isn't she cute? O'verlays and all! Do you recognize the Craigslist mirrors? This is the direction I am headed, hope I don't crash and burn along the way.

Ever since I saw this image
Shannon Berry
I have been collecting vintage Oriental paint-by-number prints

This may finally be the time to use them in a room.

Before you go, my Lowe's Gift Card Giveaway ends tonight at midnight!

I think I am in Chinoiserie heaven! I love the black sconces, the white pineapple chandelier, the mint dressers, the coral, the paint by number prints (these have become VERY collectable), everything. This room is going to be amazing.

Okay I am SUPER impressed with your rug hack!! Keeping that one in my design file drawer! You got so much done this week. Love the chandelier painted and the sconces black...can't wait to see this room next week! You go girl!!

Ok.. that nightstand is just PERFECT! I love it... that is my favorite overlay! I love the rug idea... and yes you can do rug on rug! Especially because it will be under a bed and you will less likely strip over the top one! Great job!

Genius idea to sew the rugs together! Rugs are way too freakin expensive. Also love the chandelier and mirror. What color did you end up with...Rose quartz?

Wow, I love the Malm with O'verlays and the paint by number.

Love the progress you have made - a lot, Linda! That mint dresser is gorgeous. I have been contemplating overlays for a while now - different projects - but nothing purchased yet. This is inspiring. Great work on the rug and chandelier, too! I am all for layering - look forward to seeing what you come up with for the floor.

WOW! I LOVE it all. That dresser is fabulous! It is all fabulous. And your rug idea - ingenious. Hope you find another one t cover the hole. I am jealous that you live in an area where the sources of amazing vintage stuff is endless. How I miss the east coast! Good luck with the home stretch, you are looking good!

You are killing it my friend! The rug is genius, love both sets of sconces, the chandy turned out great and I'm so happy to see the craigslist mirror! The colors in that watercolor are perfect. And the dresser - ever better than I thought it would be. Can't wait to see the whole thing!!

Your malms are AMAZING!! And the way you put the rugs together is gorgeous. And will be better when you cover the hole! I' hadn't known about vintage paint by numbers Chinoiserie. So interesting!!

And on mine, it's the hardware that may be too bright, not the fabric. I think you deserve a nice nap!!

Holy Cow Batwoman! You are working the imagination!!! Love it all. Not sure where to start so much goodness to absorb. Just let me say I too have some paint by #'s Chinois goodies that I love! Yours are wonderful! Oh & the rug.... so, so clever! World Market may have a flatwoven dhurrie/kilim type for you. So wish NJ were closer as I would show up & Ooh & Awe all day. WTG. Sleep is so over rated.

So glad you are going to layer the rugs!! Ive never been able to do it. So I will live through you! I think it's a great solution. Love the sconces and your pineapples are perfection. Your bedside tables are sooo pretty. The pics of them will be traveling the blogosphere and being pinned like mad in no time. Thinking of all the work makes me tired. I REALLY cant wait to see it all!!!!

Your room rocks! I LOVE the rugs sewn together (and that it took you a Bachelorette finale and part of the ATR, LOL). This is a wonderful wonderful idea and I'm probably going to steal it from you for one of my rooms!!! Also, that ikea dresser turned out amazingly! I've never used overlay's but now you've got me inspired! Lastly, LOVE the oriental finger paintings. This room is going to be great. Can't wait for next week!

The rugs are Brilliant! I'm a believer of things going over things. I'm always putting mirrors over mirrors. The chandelier, mirror and chest are over the top. Fantastic job!

OMG Linda! I kept saying YES! at each thing in this post. Love the pineapple chandy, LOVE LOVE LOVE the grouping of chinoiserie paintings idea (where on earth did you find a bunch of them??), LOVE LOVE LOVE the coral mirror/mint nightstand, love the layered rug idea. I can't wait to see this room next week.

I laughed at the hold onto your wallet...whenever I say "I have an idea..." my husband's first reaction is "what is it going to cost me? And does it involve me lifting heavy furniture?"

Is there anything you can't do? Sewing the rug together? Brilliant! I love vintage paint by numbers, I collect paintings of the sea. Your chandelier and sconces are great! The amazing power of spray paint. How are your new neighbors handling it? :)

I always love checking on your progress, Linda! It never disappoints. You made great progress. That minty dresser is gorgeous, love the gold accents. The coral mirror and the art print is very pretty too.

I am so excited to see the big reveal next week! Looking at everything so far, I know the room will look beautiful! Keep going, girl!

whoa - you are super busy and on overload! so mom and i were just out sourcing and we saw a cowhide for $229. We were like 'we should call linda and see if she needs it/we could ship it since she doesnt have time to shop!' LOL

Im pretty sure youve already thought of this on your own and theres probably a reason you coudlnt do it - but what about two rugs stacked (same direction) and then double it? So there's no hole and all the patterns are the same way? Are you thinking it would be too long?
