Thanks for coming back and checking in on my progress with the One Room Challenge. In case you are new to my blog, you can start the challenge, here. When you last saw my room, I was in the middle of crown molding. I am happy to report that it's done!
I will not lie, that crown molding was one of the toughest things I have ever done. I did not enjoy the process. I don't care if I learned more useless knowledge, because.....I have no intention of doing that again any time soon. Although I have this strange feeling that, like childbirth I might forget.
I am having the ceiling professionally painted, I hope. No surprise, dealing with painting contractors has been challenging, to say the least. Let's just say that this time, I am waiting for my first choice. However, to get back on track with the non-existent budget, I will be rolling the walls, myself. You can see on the right, a color I am considering.
This is the television side.
Here are the built-ins that Rod put together from Ikea cabinets. The flimsy cardboard backs are bothering me.....and this is why I have no idea, husband, when we will be moving back in.
They still need to be trimmed out, and Rod doesn't do that.
This is my favorite view. I love the way all the lines of the planks come together.
Now would be a good time to think of a color pallet...ya think? For the walls, I'm using this
Opal color that Jenny used here
the nightstands will be mint
A pop of coral, somewhere
And whatever else I stumble upon in the next few weeks. Of course all of this is subject to change....just because.
I want to take a second and give a quick thank you to Manidi, from Interior Design Musings, for mentioning the One Room Challenge.
Now, I'm not in this alone...let's go see how the others are doing

You should use that coral for the backs of the built ins. Make them pop!
room looks great...I am jealous of that plank ceiling!!
I LOVE that idea! The planks are not hard...honest.
Have you ever thought about wallpapering the backs of the built-ins? Then they won't bother you. I like to wallpaper the inside of most cabinets for added interest. You are the DIY Queen! I would NEVER atttempt ceiling moldings..SO tough! I have done wall moldings with help from the hubby but that is as far as I will go! Great job- love the ceiling too!
It is looking fantastic and think you are one brave girl for choosing something so ambitious.
Your ceilings are so amazingly beautiful, Linda. I am so proud of you for the crown moulding, too! You are super skilled. I love the idea of the coral behind the bookcases, and if you hate the backing, maybe upholster the backs with a coral fabric that you use somewhere else as well? Just an idea. The cabinets look great.
Good luck buddy!

The ceilings turned out beautifully! Tell your husband that it is all worth the wait!! I love the pop of coral ... can't wait to see where/how you use it!!
That ceiling is truly amazing. Agree with suggestions about paper/fabric. If back is too flimsy to hold that you to use a flexible backing so it could be bent into place. I did this with new bookcases. Love the look.
The ceiling is beautiful and I love your color choices.
I love the color palette.. maybe coral pillows or a bed skirt! I bet you could find some coral fabric cheap and make you own!
oh my dear god - that ceiling is hands down the best thing ive seen. it goes SO well with the mansard roof of your home... like the outside is just a preview of whats awesome on the inside. i love this linda - you are so talented!
Holy Shitake the coral rocks, to me coral is orange so I would rock that right onto that pineapple.....just saying. I know whatever you do will be fab. The ceiling is plankstatic, crown molding is amazing & that yummy mint green is D-I-V-I-N-E! Way to go!
PS; love the built-ins.
You plank ceilings turned out gorgeous. I am also loving all the built-ins! Perhaps you can use the coral as a trim for your curtains? Something like this might work, perhaps?

The ceiling is crazy gorgeous. Aren't you so excited and proud??! The colors will also be lovely. I'm so relieved I'm not the only one still in the choosing/deciding phase! So, I am going to give you a laugh at my expense. Yesterday the crate with the painting arrived and couldn't be opened without a screwdriver. My husband was out of town for the day and I had to get it open so I could take photos. I had to interrupt him in a meeting to ask where I could find a screwdriver. Then I found it and opened the crate. I felt like such a badass until I remembered your crown molding.
Holy wow! You never cease to amaze me.
Great job on the molding and the room so far. I've tried crown molding too and it is no easy task. Looking forward to seeing this finished project!
Wow!!!! Love the ceiling! looking beautiful!!! You are amazing!
The colours you are considering are thumbs WAY up from me!!! love them! The hard part is over...now just pretty. Have soooo much fun with these last few weeks. I know I will!
Wow! You have made a lot of progress. That ceiling is amazing! Great job. Can't wait to see the coral in there!
You had me at mint and coral! I cant WAIT to see how this room comes together, its going to be perfection!
This really is a challenge!!! I feel like I am cheating...not doing a room in my house but I think my husband would have had a heart attack if I had started to redecorate YET another room....again!
Everything looks good so far!
Cool! Can't wait to see how it all turns out. Will stop by and check out some of the other rooms too.
Yay!!!! It looks GREAT Linda!! I really really like the built ins too. Good luck with your endurance - with so many big projects, I'm sure this One Room Challenge is tiring, but I'm LOVING it.
Amazing!!! Truly!!
It is looking great. Keep it up!
Loving the built ins, I think I'd cover the backs in fabric?? I love your color choices too. Your room is really coming along.
My gosh, who taught you all that? That ceiling with all the angles must have not been easy to trim out. I loved your contractor story last week....#1, #2 and #3. Can't wait for next week. Cheers, L
I know it was a pain, but good god that molding looks good. I have a ceiling crush! It was all worth it - just like childbirth. Maybe you could bring that coral into the room on the back of those cabinets? Paint or fabric? Love how the room is coming together!!
Thanks for the link love, Linda! So enjoying the series!!! M.
Love, love, love the ceilings. Crown molding looks great. Enjoying the whole process. Keep the good work up!
Serious props to you for tackling all that crown molding! Definitely a huge feat! I'm loving the color palette of opal, mint and coral. Can't wait to see how you tie it all together!
Wow - your room puts mine to shame! I love all the details you are putting in! It's going to look amazing!
You should have your own show on HGTV Linda. Is there any project you won't try? The ceiling looks fabulous and I LOVE the built-ins made from IKEA shelving. Brilliant. I also love the idea of painting the coral on the back of the shelves
