Welcome to the One Room Challenge. This is an opportunity for DIY-ers and Designers to work in tandem, while finishing a room in their home. Each blogger will be posing their progress every Wednesday... and maybe even a few updates in between. Without further ado.....here are the participants
As you can only imagine, trying to coordinate posting schedules for a group this large, was nearly impossible... not to mention the fact that this runs over The Fourth of July and Canada Day. Therefore, unlike the first ORC, each blogger was given the flexibility to work at their own pace as their summer schedule permitted. Some people joined the group as recent as a few days ago! The overall goal is unanimous...to entertain and inspire you with our best attempt!
Updates: Week 2.... Week 3 ....Week 4.....Week 5....Week 6
Let the games begin....
I will be tackling my master bedroom. It is number 4 on my Home Goals for 2012. I have procrastinated on this room for four years. just like many of the men I have dated, It has so much potential.
Starting with the positives....I love my Tommy Bahama bed. OK, that is all the nice things I have to say. Here are my annoyances with this part of the room
Here are a few real problems
The light switch is so far away, I fall out of bed when I reach over to turn it off. The swing arms on the fixture are not long enough to be useful. The cords are like that because the outlet is behind the dresser and the cords are too thick and need to be put on an extension cord.
Now for this side of the room
Again, with the positives...I love the ceiling detail and the big window. The pineapple chandelier has potential...again with the potential.
My plan for this side
The final corner....the one that I feel I will be judged over. Yes, people...I have a large television in my bedroom. I also have a few bits of exercise equipment that I don't intend on using. I will not make excuses for the television....I have a ton of excuses for the exercise equipment.
What do I like about this corner....that ehffing tv! In fact, I was never "Tardy for the Wedding" on this baby.
My plan for this corner
I wold make a list...but I don't want that level of accountability.
One quick pole, before you go....How wold you update this chandelier?
I am open to all your suggestions....except the trash, my husband already voted for that!
Now, let's go check out all the other bloggers, and see what kind of rooms they are working on.

I'm very muck liking where this is headed!
I love it when you do a ceiling!! The pineapple chandy ... give it color and shine!!
I love the "redo" of your blog!I am very impressed with how much your taking on too in the room! I hate to admit I am with M re the chandy...but if it must stay...:).... I would paint it either white so it blends into the ceiling and put some fun colorful shades on it or I would take it to the max and paint it a really bright pop color (depending on the other colors in the room) and then put white shades on top...looking forward to the progress!
Linda, I love your MBR space! it is a beautiful room and worthy of an awesome sitting area in that window. This is a huge project! ( I see what you meant.) You should at least paint that chandelier all white...maybe some rub n buff gold details.
Can't wait to see what you do my friend, best of luck!

I have never seen a pineapple chandelier! Are you willing to replace it? If not, maybe try to remove the leaves, but keep the honeycomb look of the pineapples
What a great room - so much potential. You've got big plans girlfriend, can't wait to see what you do!! I know it will look great!!
First of all you blog looks great! Love the new header. Wow you master is huge! I love the idea of the built ins and do not feel bad! I have a tv too and I love it and will never get rid of it! I think you should paint out the chandelier in a glossy white! All of it... it will have texture but feel a little more modern!
Girl, that is a huge room and project, you have tons of great ideas for it! As for the pineapple chandelier, maybe a little white-washing? Looking forward to following along! LOVE the watercolor of your home and you blog design updates.
What a great space to work with! Have you considered painting the chandelier? Maybe white?
What a great room! I would paint the chandelier white and use round bulbs. Good luck!
I love this room! And you have great stuff to work with! I would paint the chandelier a contrast colour, one that pops! And those dressers are fabulous, maybe just new paint? Thank for asking my to join this challenge, it will be fun to be working alongside 19 other fabulous bloggers/designers!
I like painting the chandelier white. Your paint color is pretty, and this is a great space! Can't wait to see what you do!
Paint the chandelier white - very Palm Beach chic. Love the bed. Can't wait to see what you do. Thanks for including me - Beth of Chinoiserie Chic
I've been sick the last few days and haven't been visiting anyone's blogs so this is the first time I'm seeing your new header...love it!
I'm excited to see what you do with your room, which is enormous by the way. I agree with the others, paint it white. Good luck!
Hi Linda! Your room DOES have loads of potential and I know whatever you do is going to amp it up. I'm not sold on the white chandelier yet... I like it the way it is. I'd wait and see where the room takes you. Good Luck!!! You've got a lot of work to do my friend!! Can't wait to see it come together.
So many plans for this room and such a great space to redo, Linda. Good luck! I am sure you will get there. You could paint the chandelier all one color to minimise the tropical feel (and the look of the obvious pineapples).
Love your room Linda. The ceiling is really interesting. I think those built-ins will really help balance out your room. Can't wait to see!
All this excitement is making me wish I could have participated after all, but will be following along with you guys all the way :)
I love your plans! I can't wait to see how you do it. I like the pineapples. I would either paint it white or gold or just add some crystals to give it some sparkle. I love your new banner. That watercolor is stunning.
Excited to follow the challenge! What a great large room! I'd love to see the chandelier painted glossy red or green and moved to a porch, sunroom or breakfast room.
Whoa girl...you have bit off a huge chunk here! I am impressed. And...I DO think the chandelier can be salvaged...probably with paint but I will have to rely on a DIY blogger to give you help on that one.....but maybe keep an eye on CL to see if you can find a deal that would be worth it!
As far as a magazine article...I can only send it to Lisa....she then sends to BH&G...and THEY decide!!! Wish It was up to little ole me...:)
I would paint the chandelier white. Good luck with your redo.
Linda,
Any chance you are taking more participants for the one room challenge...it will help motivate me to move forward in my own house instead of all of my clients!!

Thanks for organizing and including me! Can't wait to play along! This is going to be fun!
omg, that room has POTENTIAL. The pineapple chandelier is fabulous, paint it white. If you decide to get rid of it I am back in NJ next week, I'll drag it home on the plane with me :-)
ps love the new header.
Hey Linda,
Just read about you oh so clever "room challenge" series! I have to say, I am so fired up to see it all. This has to be the best idea I have heard of in awhile for a blogger series!!!! very excited to see it all. I'm guessing I will be staying up late on Wednesday to take it all in. Great idea! M.
First of all, your blog looks awesome! I need to update mine but alas...it's me, myself and I in charge of that, and my computer know how (or lack thereof) definitely has it's limits :)
Second, I would DIE for that room! I'd even take it as is. Ours is a tiny little box of nothing with hardly any natural light. My hubby asked where it is on the "list" (you know that perpetual list, right?) and it's definitely on there, I just don't know what I want to do yet. No inspiration. Plus we just moved in.....four years ago....
I agree with you: TONS of potential! I'd paint those bedside tables something glossy and fabulous. If you really want to keep the chandy, I'd paint it white, and try to make a little sitting area underneath it, so it serves a purpose. You're good with the built-ins. A larger, patterned rug would look awesome, too.
I'd love to work with this room!
Yay! Another One Room Challenge! I love checking out everyone's progress!
There's so much potential in there, I can't wait to see your progress. Everything planned sounds great. Oh, and I'm with you on the TV in the bedroom. We have a 40" TV in our bedroom. I love laying in bed watching TV.
Oh, and your blog looks great! I love the new header!
I'm with Nichole, I'm not sold on painting the chandelier. I like that it picks up the look of the bed. Not a fan of the bulbs--maybe new bulbs and/or shades. THIS IS AN EXCITING PROJECT! I see your vision and can't wait to follow. (Thanks for following me!)
Such a pretty room...have you tried the bed under the chandy?Dani
Dani, I have though about it, but my husband is 6'2", and the slanting ceiling would be a problem for him.
I cannot wait to see how this room turns out, Linda!
HI Linda, I just found your blog & adding you to my list. Can't wait to see the progress:). The sharing of ideas & information is for me the best part about blogging. We are kinda neighbors, I live on LI. Have a great weekend,
Jen
Well, my beautiful neice....I have always told you how very talented you are and now you have gone an OUTDONE yourself! BRAVO on your site and can't wait to see what becomes of this room.
Come back to CA and help me redo mine!!Love you,
Aunt Lillian
This looks like fun. I'll have to give it a try next year if you do it again...
