One Room Challenge (week 4)

Hello, and thanks for coming back. Before I begin, I would like to thank Saved By Suzy and My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia for featuring my china hutch. It is the best feeling to see your creativity on another blog!

This is week 4 of the One Room Challenge. In case you are new here, you can start the challenge series here. The weeks continue to fly by. It is definitely time to prioritize and let the small things fall off the list. Here is the progress in my dining room

My ceiling is finished

If you would like to know how I installed the planks, you can go here. Now remember, the final coat of paint was applied by a professional painter...and well worth it!

Remember this screen I showed you

Well, I decided to deck it out a bit. First, I primed the black frame and then applied a high gloss finish. Once that was dry, I decided to add gold highlights to the carvings

This became so tedious, I hired my daughter to finish it. She still has more to do.

I also applied gold leaf. It still needs touching up and the missing pieces have not been put back...but you get the idea

I also separated the two and will hang them on both sides of the china hutch as artwork.

There is progress in my corner,

 It now looks like this

I love the way it glows at night. I decided to repurpose the original shades and just add a bit of paint to them

I may paint the top half another color...still not sure...OR just the edges with the blue I am using on the lanterns. What do you think?

Speaking of lanterns, I have run out of blue paint and am waiting for Michaels to get a delivery. So, I can't hang them...but here is a better look at them

I am not sure if they need a black glaze on them to tone them down. I need to see them in place before I can decide that. This is the direction my room is headed

I had no idea when I started that it would evolve into this...but I think I love it! Thanks for checking in with my room, now let's go make the rounds to the other rooms and see how they are doing. For week 5 go here.

Your room is really starting to come together! I LOVE your bright blue lanterns and your sconces look great. It was also a smart idea to separate the screen and use it as two pieces of art. You had a big week!

Linda, room is looking beautiful. I love the blue you chose for your lanterns ... I am sure the black glaze would be beautiful too. But this color is so fresh and fun!

Where to start? The ceiling is amazing. I still can't believe you did that yourself. I love the gold on the screen and the fact that you're separating it for art. My favorite though is the blue lanterns. Just gorgeous. Those are going to make quite a statement. Great job!

Yay the ceiling! You did such a good job on that Linda.
And I know you're under a time crunch now, but wow - lots of progress!
I love the idea of separating the screens and hanging them as art. Perfect. And the lanterns look really great.
I'm sure you'll know when you hang them, but as of now, I'm thinking don't dull them down with the glaze - they might blend too much with your hutch then. I could be wrong, but I think you might like them as-is once they're hung.

Linda, everything looks amazing and I love your fresh look in there. It is nice to see an Asian inspired room with such a fun feel to it and all of your projects are just perfect. Love the lanterns...my vote is to add the black glaze, lightly. Can't wait to see the finished room!

those blue lanterns look fabulous! And I like the thought of separating the screens for art!

Wow, you got so much done! The ceiling looks amazing, so impressive that it's a DIY. Smart to get the last coat done by a professional painter though.
I love the sconce! I like what you did with the shades too. And I like how bright the lanterns are, they'll add a nice pop of energy to the room. I'd live with them for a bit and maybe tone them down later if you decide you want to.

I think I love the ceiling the most so far! Everything looks great, but those planks are just amazing!

Everything looks fabulous so far. I think you can glaze the blue lantern a little to achieved a more vintage look. The wall sconces look great when they are lit up and I think it's a good idea to paint them the same blue as the lantern to tie the room together!

Thanks Suzy, I am on a mission.

Thanks, Kim. I am letting the majority win on this!

Tiffany, the ceiling is not hard...painting it is.

My Crafty Home-Life said...

It's your blue!

My Crafty Home-Life said...

I never thought about how they would look in front of the hutch...good point.

My Crafty Home-Life said...

Thanks, that's my favorite, too. If I get nothing else done, that makes the room.

Hey Girl, where have you been? Nice to see you again.

Oh my goodness, it's all looking so gorgeous! That blue on your lanterns is beautiful!!

I like how naturally your style is evolving :). I kind of love the way the sconces look right now, but painting them could be great too! They look SO good in white either way. YAY!

Thanks, it doesn't feel like it is naturally coming along. It feels like a throwing a wet noodle onto the fridge to see if it sticks!

Linda this is just gorgeous. I love everything! That asian screen is gorge!! Something funny, I just separated some asian screens to flank a hutch at a client's house. Funny coincidence, huh? You've been hard at work and I'm loving every bit of it. The blue lantern is beautiful!! I say keep the sconces white.
