Hello, and thanks for coming back. This is week 2 of the One Room Challenge. In case you are new here, you can start the challenge series here. This was a crazy busy week because it finally snowed in New Jersey. A total of 6 inches to be exact. That made running around slower than usual. Luckily, it snowed on Friday evening into Saturday...no snow-day. I managed to finish my china hutch. If you have not see it....check it out here. Onto my dining room...
This is how you last saw it
I started on the ceiling planks. First I took down the crown molding. As you can see in this picture, all of the uneven ends will be hidden under the crown once it goes back up
I did a tutorial for installing planks here. It is not hard, trust me...it just takes time. Here is a shot with the crown molding back up
I am curently working on the middle bay of the ceiling
Next, I hired an electrician to lower the sconces....and while you are at it (my favorite phrase) ...I had him move the lanterns closer together. The mirrors are in the garage waiting to be painted
And now for the "keeping it real" shot. This is how my room looks as I write this.
It always gets much worse before it gets better! If you have a second...go here and tell me which color to paint those lanterns. Be sure to check out the progress in all of the other awesome rooms...and I will see you next Wednesday. For week 3, go here

You have had a busy week! Your ceiling is going to look amazing and I'm still in love with those lanterns. What about painting them a bright color so they really pop? I don't know what color, but their shape reminds me of the bright pagodas you posted yesterday.
So funny - I was going to call my post "It has to get worse before it gets better" and show a photo of the nightmare that is my master bedroom right now! And believe me...it's worse than your dining room! ha
Anyway...LOVE the ceiling! That's going to be fabulous. What a big job.
And the china cabinet turned out really, really well.
Wow - I love how much crown molding can make a difference - it looks great! I just stumbled across your blog while on House Four's page... looks like you have a lot of awesome projects here!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! The Plank ceilings!! You are soo good!! The ceiling treatment is so classic and adds such detail and warmth!
I can't believe that you are doing the plank ceiling yourself. It looks awesome! So impressed.
I love your plank ceilings! They look great and add so much visual interest on the ceiling.
Have a good day!

That paneling rocks! I love the texture it will give the ceiling! Yes keep it real... it will all come together in the end!
Those planks are so awesome!! I love that look. You are really making progress!
I say "it gets worse before it gets better" almost daily to reassure my husband that I intended to make this explosive mess in our house....I sometimes follow it up with "if the pioneers could live and cook without power, certainly we can last one day" :) Great Job in there Linda the ceiling and hutch look fantastic. Can't wait till next week.
Suzy, I'm a bit scared of color...but I think you are right.
You're moving right along -- I can't wait to see it all finished. Still DYING over the lanterns!
Thanks Janet, I would love to see your "mess".
Hi Kate, welcome...I hope you come back.
I like to work alone. Nobody argues with me.
Thanks, I hope so.
Thanks Nicole, you are my oldest blogging friend...it was almost a year ago that we crossed paths. You're the best!
Holy cow, you have a design plan from Chinoiserie Chic....and it was gorgeous! Too bad about being on a budget.
Can I just say? I adore your keeping it real shot. Also, the ceiling panles are genius - I love the added architecture, it makes the room look so rich!
Linda, did you decide the color for those amazing lanterns? How low are you bringing them to the table? And, I love the rich molding. Gosh, you are ambitious! Great work.
You are completely industrious and handy! I salute thee!
I am impressed that you did the plank ceiling yourself! It looks great! It looks great with the crown molding! I love your keeping it real shot - it's so true that it has to get worse first!
Back at cha Linda ;) And look at you now! What a difference a year makes.
