My Summer Window Boxes

I was so excited when the people at 3M contacted me to see if I was working on any outdoor painting projects. It felt like the equivalent of Bruce Springsteen saying "Hey, want to sit in with the band?"....

.

slight exaggeration?...

.

I don't know....

.

Bruce, call me!

First, they sent me all these goodies.

This would probably not be the time to tell them that I am already addicted to many of these products.

I used

this duct tape

when I created a

custom size rug

.

This is the only tape

I would use for

painting a rug

or transforming

an ugly threshold

.

I am always telling you that you need this mask when you spray paint.

But, I had no idea that

this existed

!

Noise reduction hearing protection....

.

with...

.

wait for it...

.

radio/MP3/iPod capabilities! Put this on your holiday shopping list for the

diy

-

er

in your life. In case you are not a

diy

-

er

, no you don't

need

this for an outdoor painting project...

.

but I am totally wearing them and singing out loud while I paint. Sorry, neighbors.

I couldn't find a supermodel to show you how I looked or the products I used

...

so I found the next best thing.

Project time...

.

my window boxes were in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint!

They look fine from the curb, right? Take a closer look.

Since these window boxes are a composite material...

.

the prep and paint is super easy.

1. Protect the stone or wall using

this tape

.

2. Lightly sand any rough spots. I am in love with

this no slip sandpaper

.

3. Wipe down after sanding.

4. Prime & paint.

Here are my freshly painted and newly planted window boxes.

I like to layer color and texture in my containers & window boxes. The dark colors are a nice contrast to the white boxes. Stay cool...

.

it's hot!

Simplicity of Summer

I have been busy working outside on a project for the last few days.  Sometimes....most times....I get really focused on the task at hand and forget to look around. Yesterday almost slipped away from me.....and then....I looked across my driveway....I noticed that my hydrangeas are at their peak.

I wait all winter and most of spring in anticipation of this.

Next year at this time we might be on our way to Florida. I will miss this sight.

Tomorrow, I'll show you where I put this ornamental purple pepper....say that 3 x's fast!

I hope you take a moment and look up from whatever you are doing.

To Paint, or Not To Paint....

Hey everyone, I know this is going to freak some of you out....so I apologize in advance. I have this vintage chandelier I picked up on Ebay for under $100 many years ago. I can't even remember the exact price, I just know that I never went over $100.

I have the glass cylinders...somewhere, but one of the glass cups (the bottom piece) is gone.

It's a yellow Tole Chandelier. Here are two very similar one's on 1st Dibs.

This one is a rectangular shape and it's $1,650.

This one is square and it's $3,800.

Someone go get this one!!

Back to my story, you know where this is headed.....should I paint it?
White & gold....maybe?

source?

Black?
via

Navy & gold?

via
I know that some of you will have strong opinions about this and I could have kept it off my blog....

but I really want to know what you think. You have never given me bad advice!

Tell me...what should I do?

What I am loving

This was a great week for television. I love Million Dollar Listing, and I know so many of you do too. If you saw it last Wednesday, then you know that Fredrik (my personal favorite) bought a new loft space.

I mean, seriously....that level of crazy is so fun to watch. I love how he makes Ryan squirm.

Side note, I cannot respect a man who has this to say about women. Ryan, you deserve to be alone.

Back to Fredrik and his loft. It's finished and it's fantastic.

You can see the full video tour here.

Next up is the new show Property Envy. Watching these three critique multi million dollar properties is only part of the fun.

The second half of the fun is when Mary McDonald and Jeff Lewis continually roll their eyes over Brandy Malay's comments. If you just said "who?"...then you get the joke.

The body language is saying....."what is she doing here?"

And finally, this Summer Blue & White collection is perfection.

No surprise Jennifer's iPhone case made the list.
Available here

Have a great weekend, Peep's! Any big plans?

Meet Beth

Are we having fun connecting with all of the talent out in blogland? I know I am loving the creativity that is abundant within all of you. Today is another day to socialize with fellow blogger Beth from designPost Interiors. Many of you may already know her, but for those of you who don't....you are in for  a treat.

Beth is a busy mother of three and a designer. Somehow she manages to balance both sides of her life...that is my definition of talent. This one is for all you 'Baby Mama's'....check out Beth's latest addition.

This is her daughter's nursery. You can see more of this space here. Trust me, it's good.
~
Hi Calling it Home fans- Beth here from designPOST interiors!  Although I decided to take a little bit of a hiatus from blogging this summer, I couldn't pass up the chance to hijack Linda's blog!  Her style and awesome DIY's always amaze me and on top of that she is one of the warmest and friendliest bloggers out there.  I am sharing my skirted bar table which is a DIY, although you don't have to have Linda's skill set to accomplish your own, and it is my nod to Palm Beach chic- a little ode to Linda's move to FL...

This bar could not have been easier to concoct.  Here are my supplies:

I used the Linnmon Adils table from IKEA as my base and a Glanta tablecloth.
Folded in half, I did not have to sew or hem, the tablecloth fit perfectly around the table.
I simply used adhesive velcro strips along the edge of the table and the fold of the tablecloth to attach it.

It also provides the perfect hiding place for extra bar & party supplies.

Thanks for letting me visit Linda and I would love to have any of your friends come visit me

I will sharing more details on my bar over the next couple of weeks, including my DIY "art"
and my ideas on what makes the perfect (-looking) bar.

I will also share one more easy skirted table I whipped up...
it's another DIY for the patience-impaired!
xoxo,
Beth
