Nantucket Style......Mix & Chic

It's Monday and I am so happy Jessie is here to show you what she does best. She hunts all over the internet to find cool designers and beautiful rooms. If you are not familiar with her blog, you will want to click over and check it out. Have your pinterest ready, because you will be pinning a lot!

Hi everyone, I am Jessie, the author of Mix And Chic blog. I love blogging about chic and inspiring interiors, cool home decor products and anything interior design related. I was thrilled when Linda asked me to do a Nantucket-related guest post on her lovely blog.

Today, I am featuring a beautiful waterfront Nantucket home. This 8,000-square-foot home was designed by New York-based interior designer, Victoria Hagan for a couple and their three children. The restricted color palette of white, blue and brown adds serenity to the informal, understated home. Let's take a look.

I thought this home really captures the Nantucket spirit with its color palette and subtle nautical elements. What are your thoughts? Are you a fan of the Nantucket-style home decor too?

Thanks for having me Linda! I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Thanks Jessie, you rocked it.

Nantucket Style.....In The Hammock

I am continuing with my 31 days of Nantucket Style.

It's Sunday, and I am dreaming about Island living. A beach house would not be complete without a hammock.

Nantucket Style....DIY

Continuing with my 31 Days of Nantucket Style, I thought a little DIY would be fun for the weekend.

I poked and clicked around and found a few projects to fit the beachy coastal vibe of Nantucket. I have included the links to the tutorials and thought I would share them.

Design Sponge

Beachy Chandelier from Tatertots & Jello

This idea came from Mandi at Interior Design Musings. She saw this expensive gold leaf clam shell and thought it would be an easy DIY.
How fun is this Yarn Ombre Lampshade
This was a Pintrest challenge project I did.

A Coastal Clock DIY
I'm always looking for new ideas. Do you have a DIY you would like to share?

Nantucket Style....The Cottage Mix

I am continuing with the 31 Days of Nantucket Style. To start at the beginning, go here.

I have another treat for you, today. Lauren from the blog The Cottage Mix is here. She has great taste and it fits perfectly into Nantucket Style. Lauren renovated her husband's office space...well, she actually relocated him (my kind of woman), during the One Room Challenge. Here is the space she created

You can read about how she transformed this room, here. She has so much more on her blog....and she loves a great deal!

Don't tell her, but I was stalking her on Pinterest, before I met her....or not.

Hello all. This is Lauren from The Cottage Mix, I am so excited to be Linda's guest blogger today talking about Nantucket design.

When I think of Nantucket, I think of cedar-shake siding perfectly gray-washed by the sun and bright and airy interiors with lots of white and blue. I found a few beauties on the local real estate listings that brings this vision to life.....let's peek through the windows.

Seeing this makes me wish Summer wasn't over yet.

Nice studio and guest house, right? I would be happy living in that.

The exterior reminds me of the Something's Gotta Give house.

Could you imagine enjoying breakfast here every morning and wine in the evening? I would never leave!

Here is my "sensible chic" take on Nantucket design.

Paint a Rug Party....the Finale

OK, this was the fastest three posts I have ever done.
Probably because I have been paining 4-ev-er! If you want to start at the beginning of this party, go here.

Also, I have a giveaway going on, if you would like to enter.

Let's start with this

This is where I left you

Well, I taped and taped, and taped to get the best design I could without going back and moving other pieces of tape. Using graph paper would have been the way to go.

Nevermind, I wasn't sure this was going to work, anyway.

I mixed flat black latex paint with the paint medium. The ratio on the container says 2 parts paint to 1 part medium.

Because this rug has a high/low pile, I started with a brush painting into the middle of each stripe

I thought this would help prevent the paint from bleeding under the tape.
This was way toooo sloooow!

So I changed to a small roller

Still too slow.

So I changed to a longer roller

At this point, I really didn't care if it turned out. Actually, I was perfectly fine to tell you how it was a big fail....I just wanted it to be over.

This is what it looked like after one full coat of paint

Now you can really see how the high/low pile is affecting the paint absorption.
Another coat of paint....maybe some wine :D

And I needed to use a stencil brush

I must say it looks good from this angle

Let's take a closer look

See it?

I just didn't have it in me to do ANOTHER coat of paint. Dang, those lines are crisp!

Did you happen to notice my zebra pillows?

They keep this guy company

Here are the lessons I learned
Do
1. Try to paint a rug.
2. Use a flat weave rug.
3. Use a paint medium at a 1:1 ratio... regardless of what the label says.
4. Use the 3M tape that I used.
5. Use flat latex paint.
6. Lay your pattern out on graph paper first.
7. Participate in a rug painting party :)

Don't
1. Use a high pile rug.
2. Be impatient....it takes time.
3. Be afraid....it's not the solution to world peace, just a rug.

You know I'm not in this alone.....let's go see how the others did. I heard somebody finished in 30 minutes....show off.

Nantucket Nursery - Worthwhile Domicile

Today is a super busy day around here. Continuing with my 31 days of Nantucket Style is my friend Tiffany. To start at the beginning of the series, you can go here. Also, the final reveal of the  Paint a Rug Party will be up shortly.

If you don't know Tiffany, you may know her famous powder room.

This is a stencil! Yes, she did it all by herself.

Fab window treatment

It made quite the rounds on some blogs and Pinterest. You can see all of it here.

Anyway, Tiffany will be having a baby this FRIDAY! She was kind enough to do a Nantucket Nursery for us...

Hi all! I'm Tiffany from Worthwhile Domicile.  I'm excited to contribute to Linda's 31 day series, though I was a little hesitant at first.  I don't claim to be savvy in home design, and I can be really indecisive, so coming up with a Nantucket themed nursery seemed daunting.  And, I've never been to Nantucket!

So here's how this is going down.  I'm going to give you what I imagine a baby boys nursery would look like.  Why a baby boy?  Because I have a 4 yr old girl and am expecting another little girl October 5th....and I'm 40.  Needless to say I'm retiring my uterus soon so this will be my only stab at coming up with something for a baby boy.

So, here's what I'm thinking.

1-Bead board, 2-whale mobile (The Modern Baby Co), 3- crib (Land of Nod), 4-area rug (Land of Nod), 5-ceiling light (Shades of Light), 6-Nantucket sign (Etsy), 7-Fabrics (Carousel Designs, Fabric.com), 8-oar (Etsy), 9-nautical art prints (Etsy), 10-table lamp (Shades of Light), 11-whale bookends (Jonathan Adler), 12-mirror (Anthony Wolf), 13-dresser (Land of Nod)

The inspiration for the room started with the Nantucket sign. I love the turquoise and orange combo. Not the traditional nautical navy blue that I've seen done before.  I'm picturing bead board around the room and nautical inspired lighting.  The fabrics pull out the colors of the sign and I like how they're a bit fun and modern.  No need to be stuffy, especially not in a baby's room.  The nautical art prints can be customized by the etsy seller to match whatever color scheme you're going for which is awesome.  The oar already in my color scheme was just a stroke of luck:)

I did the easy thing here and pulled the furnishings from big name stores, but you could easily get the same look for less with pieces from Craigslist which is actually something I love to do.  I'm a big fan of mixing old and freshened up with new.

So that's what I'm envisioning for my imaginary little man's Nantucket nursery.  Thanks for having me Linda!

Thanks, and good luck with the new baby, Tiffany.
