5th Grade Science Fair!

Well, this is my third time through the 5th grade. I honestly don't remember much from the first time. A few years ago, through my daughter, was the second time....alas, if all goes well, my son will be the third and final time.

I need to work with my son on my our his Science Fair project. I tried to get the teacher (through my son's persuasion) to let us him recycle present the project I my daughter made a few years earlier. No such luck.

This year, it's a Mousetrap Car! Energy, motion, blah, blah, blah... Here is an example of what we will be working on

It is 100% my son! Wheels, cars, movement. He will be answering the question "Will a larger mousetrap power a car further than a smaller mousetrap?". If by some miracle you can't figure out the answer to that question...stay tuned, and I will let you know how the trials go... After we build them, of course.

What grade are you in?

Silly Boys!

Last week, my friend dropped by with this little stool. She asked, "can you save her?"

Two different {male} contractors said she can't be fixed. Now you DIY-ers are already seeing all the possibilities.....me too! It would not be a good idea to try and repair the split top

It would probably split again over time. However, is that where your imagination ends.....boys? Have you seen her legs?

What about those feet?

She's Cinderella, and those are glass slippers! I will be working on her and posting the "after" in a few days. How wold you fix her? What would your plan of attack be?

Embroidery.....Frame them, or Stuff them?

I have six vintage pieces of embroidery that I picked up on Ebay many years ago. They are obviously meant to be a set of dining room chair covers. I could never understand how it was chic to sit on someone's hard work? Since I only have three patterns with repeats....I'm not sure if I should hang them....or stuff them?

I like the organic feel when they are on the wall

Do you have a preference? Do I break up the set?  I think I am leaning toward framing.

I am also giving an organizing tip at Living Savvy. Come on by and see how I like to keep my sewing supplies organized.

Friday's...in The Garden...Time to Transplant & Fertilize

Hello and welcome back...I't Friday, so I'm in the garden.

This week I decided to focus on my lawn. I went to Home Depot, where I was lucky enough to stumble upon the representative form Scotts (the lawn product co.). I overheard him giving instructions to a seemingly confused older gentleman. When they were done, I asked him for the Cliff Notes....long story short, it is super confusing. I'll try to break it down. Do this now

This is a crabgrass preventative and needs to go down on DRY grass and NO RAIN FOR 48hrs. In 6-8 weeks (and this is where he was losing me), the weed killer needs to go down on WET GRASS. OK, wet grass is considered after morning dew, easy enough. The 6-8 week range is determined by how the weeds are growing at your house. You need to have weeds present, to kill them???? Yeah, I'll let you know when I do mine.

Onto more fun things....now is the perfect time to transplant any bushes, or perennials that you want in another location. If it is something that is about to bloom, I would wait until just after that bloom. This is an Endless Summer hydrangea "The Original".

This is what it looks like when it is blooming

Not my yard

Mine is located too close to another one, and I want to move it. When I dug up the root-ball, I found this

An offshoot of a new plant. I am going to separate the two before I transplant them. Using a sharp knife, this is a drywall knife

cut down the middle of the two

...and you will have a new plant

I transplanted the larger plant here, behind the roses, in-between the evergreens.

I'll walk around my yard and find a spot for the other little one. On another note, Buster came home and is doing well.

Thank you, everyone, it was so nice to read all your good wishes. We do love our pets!

Buster is Getting Surgery Today

Hi Everyone, I don't have much to say, today. My dog, Buster, is getting surgery on his eyelid. He has a growth that is getting larger, so it needs to be removed....and we are having his teeth cleaned while he is "under". Since he is my furry child, I am worried (fyi, it doesn't take much to get me to worry).

Hopefully, he will do better with his schoolwork (oops....wrong child)

I guess he will need to give up drinking for a while (oops...wrong adult)

I will be happy when this day is over, and I know that everyone is home safe and sound.

Please Help Me...What Do You Use This For?

OK, I am feeling confident that someone will know the answer. I received a grouping of these from my In-Law's when they down-sized

They are lovely and obviously meant for a place setting. They are also small and bowl shaped

What do you think was the original intent for them?

Give it your best guess...I don't know.
