Happenings

Craigslist never disappoints me. Yes, it takes time, but the score is so worth it. I just picked up this Chinoiserie wood chandelier over the weekend.

It was listed under "wood chandelier"...You're welcome.
This is my kitchen table, I didn't find it on CL, I found it in the local Classified Ads before CL existed.  I was not planning on taking this to Florida...but then I saw this table (third picture)...and I started rethinking it. I have begun the bleaching process....and it's going slow, but it's working.

I found an amazing pair of vintage loveseats, yes CL. They are from a Park Avenue apartment. Don't let the photos fool you...this fabric has seen better days. I wanted them for their shape and size.

Here they are in my garage. I won't be reupholstering them myself.

And finally, I won this fabulous iPad sleeve from the Mix & Chic giveaway....thanks Jessie!
I love it! It's from MUJJO.

Jennifer is Hooked!

Jennifer and I are showing off the endless possibilities that Craigslist has to offer.

You all know how much I love a Craigslist find. I am completely addicted and make no excuses for it. I have told you my secret weapon for hunting. I know that so many of you share in this obsession pastime.

There is one person I have been trying to convert for the longest time....Jennifer. I have emailed her dozens of 'potential' purchases.......and nothing became of it.....until now.

Here is her inspiration mirror that she has coveted for a very long time.

Annsley Interiors

It's really beautiful, right? Here is her Craigslist find.

Yes, she found an almost identical mirror!  Jennifer's mirror is by Friedman Brothers.

Here is the exact same mirror as the inspiration image.
$3,600.
If she wasn't my friend, I would hate her...especially for having the perfectly cute dog that knows how to get into a shot at the right moment.

Makes me think of this

And then she found this chest of drawers.

Chest by Kindel
Yes, a Kindel chest of drawers.

She is definitely hooked....another mirror with that dog of hers.

Her name is something like Snowball.... Marshmallow....Coconut?

Sugar! Yeah, that's her name.

You can go visit her and see some of my all time best CL finds as well as some amazing finds you can purchase.

Are you hooked on CL?

A Happy Accident

Hi Everyone, I hope you had a nice long weekend celebrating whatever it is you celebrate. I am happy to announce that I was able to finish receipt hunting, and my taxes are in the mail.

Last week I headed over the Tappan Zee Bridge to Connecticut. I was on a Craigslist mission that had great promise. You know I'm a CL addict, and I like to think that I prequalify potential purchases long before I set out on an hour drive. Well, I was lied to.....many of you may be thinking "that's exactly why I don't do Craigslist". If my average wasn't so good, I might be inclined to quit hunting.

I wanted a 38" round table, and the one listed did not have measurements. I called the owner and he said it was 36"....at $60, it was close enough. When I arrived and measured the table it was 32"....so I walked.

Luckily, Sandy was familiar with Connecticut and pointed me in the direction of some fun shopping. I ended up at Hidden Galleries in Stamford, Ct. I spent over an hour walking around and looking at all of the beautiful vignettes. The prices were not as outrageous as you might expect. In fact, some of it was reasonably priced.

And this is when it is time to go home...

I'm actually happy that the CL table didn't work out. I had a great time exploring a new place. I didn't purchase any of these items, but I did buy another rug from the Turkish Rug Seller I told you about.

Have you stumbled upon any hidden treasures lately?

Mirror Makeover

Did everyone remember to change their clocks on Saturday? This is my favorite time of year, and I only miss the hour for one day. It really should be considered a holiday, if you ask me. It's the official end to hibernation at my house.

This weekend I finished my mirror makeover. I really wanted a simple arched gold framed mirror for my One Room Challenge entry ever since I saw Pam's post on them. Since I had a specific size to work with, I turned to Craigslist. Do you remember my $15 CL mirror? Here is the transformation.

The credit for this process goes to Kristin @ The HUNTED Interior. She discovered this faux brass treatment when she experimented on this light fixture.

The Hunted Interior
Here is my step-by-step

Fill and sand major dents

Cover glass with newspaper

Wipe on rub n buff

After the rub n buff has dried, spray paint gold over it.

Up close, the finish really does look like brass. The dings in the wood frame look like vintage dented brass.

I was so happy with the look, I did my plastic doorbell cover, too.

Hopefully, I will have the table makeover to show you tomorrow. How did you spend your weekend? More fun than a DIY?

One Room Challenge, Week 5

Here we are at week 5 already. Wow is time flying by. Thanks again for taking the time to check in with me. If I didn't think you were coming by, I probably would procrastinate more. If you would like to start at the beginning of all of this, you can go here

I am super excited to announce that my trimwork is done. It took a huge chunk of time, and I had help with the hard stuff. Here are all of the specs just in case you want to try this.

All of the trim is BM Snowfall White. The walls were inspired by this bedroom. They are BM White Dove.

I could kiss Mary Ann for tracking down the paint name for me. I want my whole house painted this color.

Section 1 & 3 have the framed wall treatment above the chair rail

In Section 2, the walls were too narrow to frame them above the chair rail. I gave them a mock cap on top to finish them off. I also modified the crown in section 2.

Here, you can see that my CL altar table got a makeover. You can also see that I picked the yellow lamps. Although, weather permitting, they will be changing colors.

I think I am finally going to use this vintage brass light fixture that has been sitting in my garage for ages.

The glass is smoked, and there is a lot of it...not quite sure how I can do this without replacing all of it. I'm not even sure it works....they lady said it did, and I never checked.

I picked up this mirror, that has a gash in the upper right corner.
You just can't get good quality for $15 any more.

Hopefully, I can give it a makeover and place it above this CL table

Once I fix the red tinted stain

There is one more week....and then the big Tah Dah!

Now let's go make the rounds.

Consignment & Junk

A couple of weeks ago, I headed south on the Parkway....you Jersey folks know what I'm saying. I wanted to check out a consignment store (it shall remain nameless) that I had been looking at online. They have really lovely things like this

Great accent pieces

This Altar table made me weep

A pair of perfection

The lines stared to get blurred between consignment and new retail. I was not exactly sure which I was looking at. You certainly could not tell by the price.

It all felt like full retail to me. I haven't paid full retail since I bought my wedding dress.

The staff had a bit of an attitude. In all fairness, if they summed me up as "not their customer", they were correct.

This was definitely vintage and fabulous.

After I left the overpriced "used furniture" store.....I stopped at another place I had been checking out online. It was the polar opposite of this shop

It was a warehouse that has "Saturday's Only" days.
When I see pictures online, I have expectations in my head.

I did not expect Bi-Polar-ness

Stuff stacked on stuff, piled on more stuff.

Some people enjoy this level of digging.....I might, on a warmer day. It was freezing, and I wanted a latte.

I was starting to feel claustrophobic.

Really, you think there is a resale value on these pillows? Can you say bed bugs!

I tried to keep an open mind, but I forgot my Purell.

As usual...I'm out! Do you shop in places like either of these? I have decided that I am somewhere in the middle. Today, I am off on another CL adventure. I have a really great video for Video Sunday.

Have a great weekend!
