How Do I Join The One Room Challenge™?

Hello, and Happy October! Happy New Year to all those who celebrate. I can't believe the ORC starts this week. Can you?

Hello, and Happy October! Happy New Year to all those who celebrate. I can't believe the ORC starts this week. Can you? This Wednesday, October 5th, all twenty of the featured design bloggers will reveal their room plans. Fun fact: I am seeing most of the plans for the first time, too. Does that surprise you?

For me, the biggest surprise is on Thursdays, when everyone is welcome to join in and play along. I have no idea who will be taking the challenge and transforming a space. Some of you will be joining for the first time, while others have several successful rounds to your credit. I would like to offer a quick review for those whom have asked:

You have six Thursday posts to complete your room transformation. If you want to be precise, it is actually five weeks......unless you have already started....and that's OK! Each Thursday, after you have published your room transformation update, come to this site and link up your progress (a direct link to your post is best). Please don't email me and ask what time it goes live. It's some time after midnight...and that's all I'm sharing.

Many viewers will visit you on a day other than Thursday (weekend traffic is the highest). By placing the One room Challenge Guest Participant logo on your site, and linking the logo to your room, you will be able to help guide the viewers to your One Room Challenge™ project.

The Rules:

1. Only link up rooms dedicated to the One Room Challenge. The purpose of this event is to support one another in finishing a room.

2. Your post should include information about your space and a link back to the ORC link-up page so the readers can easily navigate through the other rooms.

3. Please be respectful of this interior design event and only have links that relate to your One Room Challenge space. Guiding the viewers away from this event is not in the spirit of the ORC and won't be permitted.

Two great offers from ORC sponsors!

10% off from Lucent Lightshop! Use code FALLORC

10% off from Arianna Belle! Use code ORC16F

I think that's everything. If you still have questions, please leave them in the comments and I will reply for everyone to see. The One Room Challenge™ has its own Instagram account, so be sure to follow. And remember to use #oneroomchallenge so we can support one another.

Design Your Own Tile - It's Addictive

A few weeks ago, I was poking around various forms of social media while scouting for new ideas and products.

A few weeks ago, I was poking around various forms of social media while scouting for new ideas and products. I like to scroll and click thorough hashtags...that lead to pictures...that lead to people...that endlessly take you on a journey and let your mind wander. Have you ever done this?

I believe it was Erin Williamson's IG account that I can blame for this new obsession. Do you know Erin? She's an amazingly talented designer and every so often, our social media paths cross. I am not cool enough to be friends with her, otherwise :). No sour grapes, I can admit to going to a Barry Manilow concert and knowing all the words.

When I saw this image, I wanted to know more about the tile and why my toes don't look that cute in red polish? The tile was from Fireclay Tile and short toes are probably the answer to the polish question.

Clicking over to Fireclay Tile's IG account led me to this.....

A few of you may remember how I adore Meg Braff. She inspired me to paint these mirrors a lovely shade of turquoise-blue. When I saw that she used the Fireclay tiles in her showhouse design, I had to know more.

And that led to this....

What? Custom color? More clicking....and on the company site you can create your own custom tile! I don't have time to give you a step-by-step demo, heaven knows this post has gone on long enough. But, I did make a graphic so you can see some of the endless possibilities.

Do you love this? I have been looking for the perfect color tile for my second bathroom for over a year. OK, so I wasn't looking endlessly, but I have been on the lookout. Same thing. Anyway, I think I may have to try this.

And for all of you Barry Manilow fans "Looks like we made it"!

Unexpected Chaos

Where did the time go? I won't bore you with the details on how busy I have been (because I know you are, too)....here's the CliffsNotes

Where did the time go? I won't bore you with the details on how busy I have been (because I know you are, too)....here're the CliffsNotes -

  • The ORC ended, but my collaboration with Housebeautiful.com continued for several weeks.
  • After visiting e-v-e-r-y college that said 'yes' and avoiding the schools that said 'no', our daughter is happily tucked away in Boston (son is still in high school).
  • I had a lovely dinner with several interior designers while visiting Boston. Kim, a blog friend from the early days and one of the original ORC-ers (currently Wayfair's Designer of the Month), was so kind to make the arrangements. I was excited to meet Kelly Rogers, who created this stunning entryway in a previous ORC, Linda Holt, who designed this fun and welcoming family room also for the ORC, and Laurie Gorelick, who has never participated in the ORC...yet :)

  • After leaving my real estate marketing position, early this year, I focused all of my energy full-time on the One Room Challenge™ while interviewing local real estate brokers. The distance and perspective afforded me the opportunity to make the best next decisions, for both careers. I am happy to back in real estate and I'll tell you more about it later.
  • And speaking of the ORC, We're partnering with House Beautiful for the second consecutive season. Together, we've had some exciting ideas. That's all I can say, so be sure to jump in and/or stay tuned.

And, just in case you are still with me, here is a handy checklist to keep you updated:

  1. Follow the official One Room Challenge Instagram account
  2. Start planning your ORC transformation.
  3. Come back on October 5th & 6th for endless inspiration (or subscribe so you won't have to remember).

It feels good to back at CIH.

HAPPY FALL!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for today! What could possibly be better than seeing yesterday's room transformations? How about over 200++ more rooms!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for today! What could possibly be better than seeing yesterday's room transformations? How about over 200++ more rooms! And I need to point out that, as of now, the One Room Challenge™ has inspired

I want to celebrate with a generous discount on some gorgeous instant downloads from a new shop, Digital Arts District. After years of receiving requests for digital files, Jennifer, from The Pink Pagoda, and her daughter, Virginia, opened a shop offering all printables. Download files and print yourself, upload to Framebridge and have your image arrived printed and framed (my preference!), or have your local Staples or Office Depot print for you.

There is so much talent in these rooms, please take the time to visit and share your comments with them. If you participated, I hope you had a great time. If you did not jump in this round, you may want to consider taking the challenge this fall.

If you are reading this via email, you will need to click here to see all of these rooms. Trust me, you want to see them!

A quick reminder of the rules:

1. Only link up rooms dedicated to the One Room Challenge.

2. You must have a link back to this page so the readers can easily navigate through the other rooms.

3. Please be respectful of this interior design event and only have links that relate to your One Room Challenge space.

I will be visiting each and every room, but I will not be able to leave 200++ comments. I hope you understand.
