Mixing Architectural Styles

I really love when architects play with details and merge unexpected styles together. This is a beach house, but it could easily blend into the mountains of Colorado. It has its own unique style.

This one feels modern, but also reminds me of an antique farm house.

I love the unexpected arched door with the metal roof on this one. The horizontal fencing is a nice touch, too.

I would expect the inside of this one to be as interesting as the outside. Maybe a pottery studio or an artists loft just beyond the door.

Do you ever wonder how people live inside their homes?

Absolutely! I have been in a million houses and enjoy analyzing how people live. Houses talk! It is interesting to 'read' what is going on in people's lives by their houses without ever meeting them.

Heck, yow! Isn't that's why we read blogs? I enjoy Hugh Newell Jacobson's work: the traditional purity of form stopped down to modern.

I like when a house has personality and the homeowners aren't afraid to break the rules a bit and do something unexpected. Great post!! I LOVE that last white house with the metal roof.

Wonder it all the time. That's why I take long drives at night, so I can see in their windows. Did I say that?! :)

Yes, I love walking my dogs at night because I can see glimpses of interiors in the neighborhood. Love these transitional style homes! And we are heading up to Maine next week, Linda. Wish me luck :)

I wonder about that all the time. If I really love the outside of the house, I wish I could peek on the inside to see if it is as pretty on the inside.

Funny you should ask because when my mom and I walk her neighborhood we always wait until dark so we can see into our favorite houses.

I love them all, but image number two is most unique with the mid century modern stone entry.
