Naturally, I was thrilled when Jeffrey Alan Marks of Million Dollar Decorator renovated a Nantucket home. In case you are new to my blog, I endlessly rambled about Nantucket Style for 31 days. The show led us to believe that it was furnished entirely from catalogs. If you saw the show, then you know how he slipped in an $11,000 bench.
Let's face it, there were probably several pieces that we won't find in catalogs.
And I don't care...I still loved it.
The family room
Here are some of the catalog items that Jeffrey Alan Marks listed on his FB page.

He said it was this ottoman, but obviously it was custom upholstered.

He used this sconce and it is probably the only thing I don't love.

Do you consider retail stores that happen to have catalogs
....catalog shopping?

I saw this episode and loved the after! Loved. I actually think the sconces were fitting for the space. I know you love yourself a Nantucket home gurll.
Very fun and fresh for Nantucket!! I guess if a retail store has a catalog ... it is fair game for catalog shopping! xo
Oy lady, I loved your Nantucket series and I loved the end result of Jeffrey's work, but he and everyone on that show are so insufferable that it drives me insane! The disdain he had for catalog/retail shopping in design was jaw-dropping! I'm happy he has filthy rich clients who can afford to have everything custom made but it was really a slap to most of us Bravo viewers and regular Joes who relish the art of great design from catalogs/stores! There was also nothing special about that $11,000 bench! Could have saved his client a cool $10K with that one.
That was a great episode. We went in West Elm yesterday just because of the show, so I imagine they'll get some traffic from it! That store does not disappoint! It is really bringing all the natural elements into play right now. I love Room and Board- that's where I got my sofa. Have a great week Linda.

Oh how I miss West Elm....
Dang $11,000 bench......
I loved the Nantucket project! You know when I saw that upholstered ottoman on the show I immediately looked for in my WE catalog that happened to come just 2 days later - and did not find that black & white ottoman anywhere. Hmm, the magic of television...

Thanks for the recap....we do not have cable over here at Chez Wall so I don't get to indulge myself with such shows (one of the reasons we don't have cable if you get my drift). My CSIL says I would love that show!
I have this episode taped but I haven't watched it yet....I wish we had a West Elm near us...I would rather go to a store than buy from the catalog.
Oh yes Linda. I usually do a lot of online and paper catalog shopping and get my "one-of-a-kind" pieces from antique stores and thrift. Don't have the kind of money yet for 1st dibs and the like, although I've gotten some fab. pieces from OKL. :-)
I saw this episode, everything was beautiful! happy new year!

Love that Missoni chair. I don't think I'd consider that catalog shopping though. Nice try.
The reality some people live in is astounding! I'm pretty sure I could have my house painted for 11k. But a bench would work too ;)
Love the show and the room. I could move right in!! No way would I have an 11k anything in my house except maybe an entire room, but that is my reality. I also don't have two homes, one of which is in Nantucket, so there you go!! Love my little home and I want it to have a Nantucket vibe so that is why I loved the show so much, plus I love His clean lines and handsome rooms. Loved the light! The red cord just made it that much more wonderful for that setting. I think catalogs are catalogs as long as it is retail. I wondered about the ottomans, you are so right he got it upholstered for sure!! Love your Nantucket post. Found you on Pinterest and instantly became a follower!! happy Monday,
Kathysue
PS i want to know where he got the mirrors, loved those so much!
I consider any chain with multiple outlets and/or a catalog one and the same. I don't mind them at all but I could not live with entirely mass produced, new stuff. Throw in an antique or crusty flea market find.
OK, So I forgive the spoiler because you're my favourite. You see in big old Canada MDD only starts this week on Jan 10th. Boo. I'm so excited to see all the "deliciousness" I've missed them all very much. As for the Nantucket house...OMG those ottomans...the fabric...it hurts. Any catalogue is a good catalogue as long as it ships to Canada.
Love the rugs & coffee table. Not sure if that is good or bad.....
now Linda, I'm sure that $11,000 bench can be found in SOME catalog SOMEWHERE...just not anywhere that any normal people have access to. LOL. I love this Nantucket house! Happy New Year girl!
Linda I saw this episode, everything was beatifull
I consider Pottery Barn catalog shopping since they send me catalogs all the time and I never really visit the stores. Some of what it sounds like he did, I have done before - taking something from a retail chain and altering it to make it a less expensive custom piece - but I haven't made $11, 000 of alterations.
I'm so out of the loop ~ not much of a TV watcher, so I haven't seen it, but have heard all the hype about the 11K ottoman!
How fun to see the sources for a beautifully decorated home (and I love his take on "Nantucket" - fresh and modern). But $11K….how ridiculous! What I could do with that money. I get the concept of high-low, but an ottoman for the high? Ugh.
I haven't seen it either but I'm intrigued. I think the house was designed with you in mind Linda. $11K for an ottoman?
Exactly what Kerry said!
That bench made me laugh....I mean seriously $11,000 and it really didn't seem that impressive (to me). Overall I liked it but glad they went to the antique store and got a few vintage pieces. I loved the bench with the flannel and felt. - Brandy
I need to check that show out - I adore Nantucket and "Nantucket Style"! The prettiest house I have ever been to up there was on the cliff overlooking the sound up a steep cobblestone street from Jetties Beach - my dream beach house!
Enjoy your day! xoxoxox
oh my god I loved that house so much! JAM is definitely my favorite designer on the show... although the "slip" of the $11,000 bench did make me a little queasy. it looked like a normal bench!? such a waste.

Love the Missoni chair with the glass table!
I waited to watch the episode to comment here. I thought the ottoman on the west elm shop floor was the same ones ordered but I do not see it on their website - strange. I loved the vibe of the entire place and also that he chose to add some antique pieces to take it to a different level.
Your husband is a genius at what he does. xo
Such gorgeous pieces! I really like the first photo with the chairs, fireplace, and the colorful painting. Mixing old and new.. doesn't get better than that! I always think about what it would be like to actually walk through one of these places!
No, I think of brick and mortar stores as brick and mortar stores with an online shopping component. It's nice to be able to actually go in and see something "in person." I also like that if it's unavailable in the shop, that you might be able to find it online.
Ooo. I like what he did.
