How to Hang Something Heavy....Like a Pro

This is a great way to hang anything heavy....headboards, art, a shelving unit....whatever. It is actually fairly simple.

I thought I would share with you how I hung my heavy mirrors for the One Room Challenge. You want to use a Z Bracket

Now you can buy one, or what I prefer....you can make one. In the carpet section of your local home improvement store, you will find this

A piece of metal carpet trim with the perfect bend already in it. You will need a piece twice the length of your object (one length for the wall, one for the piece). You can cut this with a hacksaw or nippers (the holes are already drilled in it). Next, find the perfect position on the wall to hang your object.

Attach one piece of the carpet trim (channel side facing up) to the wall. You can see that the studs are not center...it doesn't matter, as long as you use long screws (I like 3") and span at least 2 studs to anchor the bracket within the placement. In this case, there are 2 studs available. Physics will do the rest. I can't tell you exactly how, because I was absent that day ;).

Attach the other piece to the back of your heavy object

Make sure the channel is facing down on this one. Also, put a screw into every hole. Here, you will only need screws long enough to grab the wood. Slide the object (mirror in this case) down over the wall bracket, and you have a flush mount for a heavy object. Now for the professional touch

Add a rubber bumper (1/2 or 3/4) depending on your depth needed....to the bottom corners of your piece

This will keep it the perfect distance away from the wall, and help hold it in place. That's it!

Tight to the wall, and you did not have to do endless equations to find the correct stud position.

Legoland Florida

Last week, the kids had a break from school....so, doing what East Coast people do....we went to Florida. I think it was the best weather we have had in February. Among the many things on our adventure (not Mickey), we went to Legoland. My son and I love to build with lego. Our new obsession is Nanoblocks. In fact, he recently made this one for me and I put it in my china hutch (it is only 3" tall).
Here is a glimpse into our adventure

The Beginning

All you keep telling yourself is.....that's all made from lego? Have you ever been to Legoland? Where do you take your kids when they are on a break?

Danny Seo

I am always in awe of Danny Seo. He is an environmental lifestyle expert, author, and television personality.

He is so creative in his endless search for ways to upcycle objects into beautiful and functional works of art. Here are some of my favorite projects of his. This throw that he made from random scarves loosely stitched together.

Using duck tape to reinforce regular canvas bags and turning them into beautiful indestructible shopping bags

Using newspaper to wrap a bottle of wine

Old raffle tickets to wrap a box

Paint chips for ID tags

Painting an old tray with chalkboard paint

He is a genius. If you are looking for some inspirational crafts, here are his craft videos for Michaels. Now I am feeling a big guilty about throwing some things away.....how about you?

How to Disable Word Verification & CAPTCHA on Blogger

Please consider taking down your word verification. I love leaving comments on blogs. I try...a lot!! However, on an iPhone or iPad and auto-correct....it is nearly impossible. Not to mention that word verification, itself, has gotten quite difficult to read. Here is a video that will show you how to modify yours. I have different preferences with some of her settings but the overall goal is the same.

Thank you, Randomocity for this video

I realized, after sending e-mails to people, that most bloggers don't know they have this. If you don't know if word verification is on your comments.....leave your blog address on this comments, and we will visit you and find out.

My question to you is, if after one failed attempt with word verification, do you try again OR move on?

What Do You Call Him/Her?

We are on our way home from Florida. In fact, by the time you read this...we will be back in New Jersey. Shortly, I will post some pictures from Legoland. For now, I am missing my dog. I have posted about him before. He is my third child. We all love him...but I like to think that I am his favorite. I feed him, and he remembers that.

I have about 4 different names for him. None of them are his actual name. Shmooboo, Doodoo, Shoeshoe, Coocoo. They all sound roughly the same...and he comes when I call. I can't be alone in this.....so, what do you call your pet?

The only thing that did not get done was a reupholster on the head chairs that you see in the beginning. I found a fabric...but ran out of time. Next up for me is the all white foyer I have dreamed of....anyone want to play "Foyer Challenge?" Here is the information & some links for this transformation:
