I needed a break from all that crown molding drama in my master bedroom. It was time to get off the ladder, and change projects. Do you do that.....start one, and switch it up with another? I like to tell myself that it keeps me from getting bored. Who are we kidding...it's ADD! The only thing that makes me ok with it, is most creative people I know, have it.
a closer look
They are not working for me. First, they are a bit too tall. Next, they are a little bit country. Why am I hearing Donny Osmond say, "and I'm a little bit rock n' roll"?
I did not think that paint alone would solve these problems
See all the rounded edges, that will look awful painted my vision of mint. So, I started to hack away
By removing the bottom skirt, it brought the dresser down to the perfect height. Then, I started trying to square up the drawer fronts
And this is where it ends. It's ugly! I do not want to invest one more second of my time into this piece. Sometimes you just need to know when to fold em.
On another note, I want to say thanks to my friend Jennifer. She wrote the nicest piece about me. I bet you would not have put us together?
Have you had any DIY disasters lately?

I feel your pain! Sometimes you just need to "fold um" and hunt for another solution...I often find it is the " design gods" telling me that the perfect piece(s) is around the corner!
Oh man! That stinks when a project goes like that. I'm sure you will come up with something even more wonderful.
Ha! You gave it a great try! Good luck on your search for something else! Craigslist?
K, that is so me... tear down, whack, cuss, whack again, cuss some more, sit down in a heap, cry & then scrape the whole thing. Yeah ADD for sure! You will get there I have no doubt. Can't wait to see the results.
Had an idea.... is there an Ikea near you? you could add some PBC ala Ikea Hack + Myoverlays.com. I did it & love my chest! Ikea ships in like 2 days if not one nearby. Myoverlays even tell which Ikea pieces to buy.
Hi Linda,
i saw a chair of yours on the PInk Pagoda - it has a wonderful blue and white fabric on it, could you tell me who the fabric is by?
Thanks!
I hate that ... but good for you for just saying forget it ... and move on!! You will find the perfect "new" solution! Yes, we all have ADD ... as I sit here with a coffee table for my daughter's college apt. half painted and my wall half painted because I decided to attack the fireplace!
No DIY disasters over here but that's because you actually have to be doing something for that to be a possibility:/.
I'm also having a dilemma with my nightstands. Just bought them a couple of years ago and just realized that they aren't going to fit in our new room. Yet another thing to buy. Frustrating.
Thanks for putting Kenny Rogers in my head...but he's right...know when to walk away and know when to run (to your favorite decor store) Have fun! Can't wait for Wednesday!
If at first you don't succeed... Whatever happens I know it will look great. And if it makes you feel any better, I'm in the middle of fixing two big huge 'attempts'. If only everything would turn out the way I have it in my brain...
ooh friend, I am so sorry! I know all the work you are putting into this! It would be nice if something went right, eh? The ceiling is looking good! Any luck with your carpenter? This is where the budget gets blown when you scrap your DIY and have to go buy something! crap! You have THE most wonderful bed though. I have no doubt it will all work out, but not without dragging you through the ringer. Best of luck this week. Sending good kharma your way!

Thanks for the mention, Linda! I know how you feel with the nightstands. I have a pair of chest I bought an estate sale thinking they would be perfect. I had them painted and I'm just not there. Should I try new hardware? Or just fold? And yeah, I'm with Nicole. Thanks so much for the Kenny Rogers. Ugh!
LOL - as I read this I saw ADD all over the place. gotta love us design brains!
what about changing out the hardware. that was the first thing that screamed too round to me. what are you thinkin?
DIY disasters? The short answer is YES! But, as frustrated as I'm sure you are, you might still have a salvageable project on your hands. The dresser looks like a great blank slate to me. If you painted, distressed/glazed (or not), then added some cute knobs (these? http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/home-hardware/B25039595.jsp) you'd be in pretty dang good shape! AND if you didn't like it still, the knobs would be totally reusable for another project. Just a thought xox :)
