Friday's In the Garden....Contain Yourself

Hello everyone, and welcome back. This week I managed to get some of my containers planted.

I spent Mother's Day in my garden. It is exactly where I wanted to be. My family was great...they washed my car (seems like an annual event), got my favorite breakfast sandwich, and some lovely cards along with a few gifts. The day ended with sushi! It was perfect. Here are some of my container choices this season

In the black self-watering container, I transplanted some Lambs Ear

For this small container...just a few different coleus

Again, I put in Lambs ear (it will perk up soon). I also transplanted a blue hosta and more coleus

For the window boxes...every year I can't decide (remember the waffle)

I went with a purple striped wave petunia and some chartreuse potato vines. I also mixed in a blue columnar juniper flanked by variegated boxwood's. Those three will live over the winter, so next year should be easier (who am I kidding?).

I only bought a hanging arrangement once...maybe twice...and each year I replant the basket with the colors of my current season. I have more to plant, so I am off. What are you doing in your containers?

If you love window boxes, you may enjoy some of my window box posts here.

These are beautiful and inspiring me to get some coleus and other hosta varieties. I love the lime green of the potatoe vine and just planted two planters with hot pink geraniums with potatoe vines.. I'm moving alot of my plants in my sunroom out to the deck as soon as we finish deck repairs and stain.

Those are some enviable planters. I just did my containers yesterday. Two with herbs and two with red petunias, red geraniums, dusty miller, spikes, and vinca. These summer herb and flower containers seem to be the only things I can keep alive!

Container gardening is pretty much all I do. Do you have any tips for keeping container plants alive and happy?

Thank you. I put those same petunia's in my window box and felt they needed something else in there to fill it out. I'll use you as inspiration (aka - copy). :)

Those are beautiful! I love hostas...they are so sturdy and come back year after year. I haven't thought about using coleus for a long time - I need to get some!
I popped over from Mike's blog, and now you have 103 followers!!

I use Osmocote, it is a time-released water retention additive. Just mix it in when you are planting.
