Welcome back to week 2 of Spring Into Action. I am tackling my basement shelving that I have been procrastinating for over a year! You can go to the beginning, here. There are 11 other bloggers working on their DIY's, too.
Before I tell you about my progress....my window boxes are onDancing With the Stars The Waffler. Where America blogland gets to vote for their favorite. If you have an extra "click" in you today...go here, and vote for your favorite look for my house! If you are feeling indecisive about something in your life, have The Waffler poll blogland for a vote.
Now, back to the basement shelving. Here is my old shelving that no longer fits
It is just 1x12 pine boards that I cut down. As you can see, I used large cleats to hold the shelves
The large cleats prevent storage boxes from stacking neatly. Also, the shelves are an awkward width
More wasted space! Since I need to chop them up, anyway......might as well (famous last words) really make them custom. I disassembled the shelves
Sanded all the rough spots from the previous glue, etc
...now I need to measure and reassemble. I have 1 week left for that. As for the dehumidifier....I wanted to install a hose to the back
Here are the parts
I followed the manufactures instructions
...and this happened
I can't get it close to the wall (insert bad words)! I need a 90 degree bend so the hose will lay straight. I can't imagine why I procrastinated on this project. it has been nothing but fun? Looks like I will be spending this lovely weekend in the basement. Come back next week to see if I put all of this curbside for bulky trash! To see the reveal, go here.
Now let's see how the other projects arefailing doing!

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who made limited progress this past week! We will all look like heroes next week for the reveal, I'm sure of it! BTW your manicure looks lovely on the two fingers peeking thru in the photos. Glad you wore gloves to protect your investment while sanding!
At least you had some action in your spring! I was just off having fun. Can't wait til next week.
I am impressed with your skills, Linda. You certainly seem to know what you are doing and what needs to be done to resolve any hiccups. Will check out The Waffler.
That is so awesome that you took apart your old shelves and sre reusing everything. I hate waste so it great to see. I might have just left the inefficient shelves. I am will to bet that just about all of us had a naughty word or two this week.
You can do it! You'll be so happy to have that storage once you're done!
You just reminded me of why I make Dave do things like attach hoses to dehumidifiers. My language skills suffer greatly, deteriorating almost entirely into words containing no more than four letters. The shelves now - I'd do that. They are going to be awesome!
I still can't believe you are doing all this work yourself. So impressive. Hang in there. It will all get done and you'll be so happy that you tackled this project.
Your waffle is off to a great start -- thanks again for letting me feature you on The Waffler!!
Wow Linda! I'm always so impressed with you. And since I have some shelving of my own to make in the next month I will learn from your cleat complaints and try to accommodate that concern in my design. I know you'd rather be outside but you CAN DO IT! I'm going to go see what a waffler is...how is it that I can be so out of touch??
Ugh! Stupid hose! Anyway, at least you got the sanding done! I hate the part!
Bummer for sure. But you are rocking it Linda! Taking that all apart and reconfiguring. My hero. It'll turn out great!
oof, that looks like a pain :-)
HAHA! It looks like a lot of fun! I hate it when the hoses stick out! Good luck with the home stretch! I love this challenge!
I love that you showed a result that wasn't "perfect" like so many DIY projects I see online which I can't relate to at all being that I'm a DIY huge fail. You are unbelievably ambitious to tackle carpentry!!
I tell ya, I feel your pain. I couldn't even get into the pain that small table gave me. It looks like you're gonna work it out- in fact, I bet you probably have already! ;-)
xo Becca
Ugh! So frustrating when that happens! I have no doubt that you'll find a way to make it work.
