Lantern Color?

Hi everyone. I need your help! Yesterday, when the "One Room Challenge" was announced, I introduced you to my dining room. As I mentioned, I want to change the color of my lanterns.......only, I don't know which color to choose. This is where you come in....please tell me which color your like!

Here is some information about the client....me! I don't like "matchie - matchie". I like pieces that will look good in a room, but will be fine when the room changes...new paint color, etc. I am willing to take a risk (I think), but usually don't like "loud" things either. Not an easy client, or as my husband would say, "you try living with her".

Here is my lantern (dust and all)

Here are some of the choices...feel free to suggest any additional color AND do you like the ribs gold?

Can you see why this is so hard? Maybe not? What is your favorite color for my room? Thank you so much for your help...I know I can count on you!

The palest green is really nice but I would end up with red or black at my house. The gold ribbing looks fab with the green.

Gorgeous lantern!! I am really loving lanterns in dining rooms that have a pop of a new color in the room....like a fairly neutral room with a blue (or insert other color) lantern in the middle, which creates a fabulous focal point.
Take care,
Caroline

You probably know what I am going to say...I like the pewter, grayish, bluish treatment 2, 4, 5 are my pics....any of those tones would work well. I love a gold, pewter or copper rub. Don't you love when you pose a question and get a different answer from everyone? :)

I would do #1 or #2. I would steer clear of the red so it doesn't look like a Chinese lantern. Although I love red just not for this maybe. Can't wait to see what you pick!

I like the idea of a navy blue or white with your wall color. Gold ribbing would look good with either of those colors.

I really like the first blue one or the gray in the last picture. Whatever you pick will be gorgeous though. Good luck! I know how hard it is to pick paint colors (ha!)

You could never go wrong with black, but have you thought about gold leafing it? I've seen that you can DIY that and there'a a faux gold leaf so it's not crazily expensive. I have it bookmarked somewhere, so I'll try to find it. I also know there's a how to book on Amazon. You can make it look subtle too, so it doesn't cheapen the look. Just a thought. Those lanterns are amazing!

I agree that black is a great choice. It will look great with the gold details, and they'll pop more against the darkness. I would choose a semi gloss or full gloss finish to get maximum effect and "wow" factor. Fun project!! Good Luck, they are such nice big lanterns..they're gonna be great no matter what you choose.

I like the idea of black, but I can't resist that Hague Blue one (#1). It's just such a great color and would add some definite edge/personality to your space. I know you said you didn't like matchy-matchy so it doesn't matter if the fabric you pick matches the blue as long as it coordinates. Can't wait to see what you do. Thanks for stopping by my blog so I could find you!

I posted yesterday on this but it must have not gone through....or you deleted my comment! LOL! I like the idea of pewter as the base color with a darker hue of pewter (almost black) as the rub on the trim.

I like the one that looks pale gray in the last picture with the red. I'm on a gray thing now. Painted my kitchen a pale gray 2 years ago and I love it. sorry, I'm not great with color until I see it on the wall.

I really like the blue (#1) and the red (last pic) in your dining room. There are many neutrals in your space and I think a bright color can help make a design statement and create some excitement in your room. Even if someone might think the red lantern will look a like Chinese lantern, I think it still look very classy and the global eclectic look is so chic these days! A bright yellow or gold/ brass color is wonderful, too!

Can't wait to see what you pick in the end!

Oh, these are cool, Linda! I'm a little mis-matchy too, so I think a bright color. LOVE the red or the blue. Tough choice. Whatever you choose will be really pretty against the curio.

Wow, I love your lanterns! I would vote for a pop of color. What about yellow or chartreuse? Hate to say though I'm not loving the gold ribbing on any of the colors. Let us know what you decide!
