China Hutch ...after

Not that long ago, I told you about Me & Mrs. Jones. I reached out to her, via e-mail, for help with my china hutch. This is my hutch. I painted it a medium gray and silverleafed the back. I was not happy with it. it needed more depth and interest.

This is the real "before", long before I blogged.

Stephanie (Me & Mrs. Jones) suggested the following...use this over the paint

Here are the steps, first use 400 grit sandpaper to break the seal

Wipe on the stain

Then, wipe off the excess.

I repeated this one more time (2 coats total), and now I have this

It is exactly what I wanted...and it only took ....2 tries! Sometimes things take me..... 3 tries, or is that 3 trips in the car? Thank you Stephanie! On average, how many tries does a project take you?

Stunning! Love the patina the stain gave your hutch! It doesn't take me that many times to complete the project ... it is the trips in the car that kills me!!

It looks great! Definitely more depth and richness. I'll have to file this away for future projects. I agree with Kim. The trips back and forth to the store for things that I forgot is the thing that irritates me the most.

It looks fabulous!!
It also shows off the silver leaf on the inside far more than the previous paint colour did.

Nice hutch! It takes me 2 tries on some projects some of which actually need a third but I give up and live with it.

Thanks!

Thanks Janet...I can't wait to see your chair reveal on Wednesday!

Kerry, doesn't it just nag at you when you have to "live with it?" I know that my brain becomes so focused on that one thing!

Love the hutch. I love your green plates inside too!!
If the project requires measuring I'm in trouble and it might require having a professional come in and fix my multiple attempts. Otherwise my issue is that the project is never 100% complete. There is always a hem that needs fixing/finishing.

Julie, it sounds like you need to play "One Room Challenge" round 2!

Looks great! Certainly worth all that work! It's fun to see little peeks at the work everyone is doing for the One Room Challenge.

Really nice! 2nd try really works for you! I always start fast...get tired of it... finish fast...think about how I don't really like it and how I SHOULD have done it..then I do it right. This week I should have worn gloves like you..I have black fingers on my right hand:(

Hate that! Maybe it will impress your clients!

What an great makeover! It's amazing what a little bit of stain can do for a project. I did the same thing to a table a few years ago, and it looked 100 times better after the stain went on. Stopping by from Serenity Now.
